Believe it when I see it mode ?
Other teams fans apart from the Panthers can actively discuss win losses for the season, where as Giants fans scour the schedule looking for a potential win, apart from the Panthers I don't see any.
Are we becoming what the Lions used to be or have we already arrived ?
2 games so far, one we were not even competitive, and the other trying to beat a team that even through their own ineptitude and no touchdowns still managed to walk away with the win despite being the superior team between the 20's.
If you can't beat a team that is actively trying to hand you the game with a rookie quarterback, it does not bode well.
The schedule gets infinitely harder, I think by the time the Cowboys game is over we will have a clear idea of the rest of the season.
Yep I hope I am proved to be wrong, I really do, but I will believe it when I see it sadly. I don't want to be thinking ahead to the 25 draft after a few games as that is all that is left of this season.
The question is, will having a 1 or 2 pick at the next draft actually change things ? or will it remain the same ?
Give me some positivity guys please.
Dallas: Balt, @NYG, @Pitt, Detroit, @SF, @ Atl, Phil
Philly: @TB, Clev, @NYG, @ Cinn, Jags, @ Dall, Wash
Philly's appears a bit easier but they haven't looked great so far. They could very easily be 0-2 if GB hadn't shot itself in the foot so many times week 1.
The league has shifted, many of the top teams are very slow out of the gate or dealing with injuries. Now, this creates two opposite but very much aligned possibilities and problems for the Giants:
1- it means we could be not great and still be in the playoff hunt come the end of the year (a sort of 2020 problem 6-10 almost got in)
2- because others will not be that great being less than that could be seen as complete failure and the entire front office and staff is cleared out..
To your "are we becoming the Lions?" question, we've been the worst team in the NFL over the last 10 years, I think we all need to accept the reality of it. 2 playoff appearances, 1 win, and every other season a losing one. Its been bad.
On the "I'll believe it when I see it" portion, yes I'm there. We've been bad, we've been sold a bill of goods before saying we're going to be good only to be again defrauded by our franchise. Mara needs to prove to the world the Giants aren't bottom dwellers before anyone is going to give the benefit of the doubt.
I think offensively we know our limitations. Steady QB play will lead to improvement but that's no guarantee.
Defensively with a new system, 2 rookies and a guy signed 3 weeks ago in the secondary and a revolving door at ILB so far, you can make the case that there is tremendous opportunity to get better. Now it better happen fast, but I can see a lights coming on moment where we force a late turnover or get a defensive score and we look back on it as the turning point.
So while I'm the boat of what I have seen screams 3/4 win season, I can still see 7/8 wins and mediocracy as with in the realm of possibility. But this game is huge as staring 0-4 in the face with 3 days to prepare sets up a burn the boats situation.
Alot of teams share the problem as well. As the game continues to morph away from its golden age, there's more and more ugly football on display, and teams trying to catch up.
But, who will be making the pick? If they wind up firing Davoli and Schoen, it's likely the scouting department and their reports will be used in the 2025 draft. How will NYG break this chain remains a huge question.
I think this group just needs a spark.
A late game win with a few big plays at the right time by the right players. Followed by a dancing Dabes with cigar in the locker room.
We all need it.
This is a lame duck year, we're all waiting for the next QB.
If they lose the Browns on Sunday, they're on a path to 0-7.

100%. Excellent point. Momentum in the NFL is real. It's not everything, but it matters a lot. And yeah, unless this team gets some positive momentum soon, the negative will overwhelm all. On the team and in the fan base.
I'm not a child making a birthday wish for the Giants to be good when I'm blowing out candles. I'm in my mid-40s and have watched the Giants become one of the worst franchises in sports over the last decade.
I'll start believing in them when they give me a reason to.

The answer is that this staff is responsible for the last 2 years, not the last 12. That should be pretty easy to understand.
It's possible that this season gives legitimate cause to lump this staff with prior ineffective ones, but we're not there yet.

Nothing this staff has done suggests the kind of organizational shift necessary to undo a decade of failure. Sorry, going to need actual evidence and results before they get any benefit of the doubt.
Last year they were able to recover from a disastrous start fueled by injuries and their own errors to win and compete against better teams with Taylor/DeVito.
Rough start again but only halfway through the first quarter. Imagine they were able to obtain a quarterback that excited you and you’d be willing to be patient with as he developed….You’d probably have a completely different perspective towards the staff and other 52 players. At least for a while.
Some fans choose to have that perspective still because the development of those 52 + staff is as important as the quarterback.

It's hard to argue with this last point. Three years in and we have no real front office moves that improved this team that we can hang our hat on. Two full years to improve the O-Line. Bad Defensive Coordinator decisions. Giving DJ a big contract instead of tagging him and tagging Barkley instead of giving him a big contract. Lot's of questionable coaching decisions and the future doesn't look any brighter now than when we first hired Schoen and Dabs. I'm not a tear it all down guy but I could become one if we don't see some strides this season.

That's for the team. For Jones, I am in show me more mode. This means don't lock in and then throw to a WR in double and triple coverage, especially when your #1 ran right in front of you hand raised and wide open on the same play. This means, make some secondary reads. This means look like more than an average QB. Show me more.
I want nothing more than next year to have Jones as a sure thing to be our starting QB. That would mean both he was awesome the rest of the way and the team won.
Long term just focus on the QB and The Trenches. If they suck this year then get motivated to hopefuly see a new QB or agressively enhance the front 7 on Defense and the OL.
Nabers is gonna be a superstar. Going forward everything comes down to QB and Trenches.

Jones is just not save-able on this. It's year 6. If he could have improved on this, he would have done it already. Russell Westbrook isn't going to suddenly turn into a good jump shooter. Some guys just don't have certain skills in them. For Jones, it happens to be the most important one for a QB.

I don't want to count moral victories, like at least we scored a TD, at least we didn't look incompetent, etc. After that (hopefully after Sunday) I will be in win 2 fucking games mode. And so on.

Oh, I know. I was being nice and saying that is the best case scenario. Sadly, I don't think it is remotely possible.
Ah yes, I see. Yeah I agree. You'd think they could train him on an Oculus or some sort of device like that.... I'd love for him to get better, but I hold 0 hope that it happens.
