lineup for the Devs, you won't. The major league team flew to the Czech Republic yesterday. All ALH'ers tonight. Interesting that Seamus Casey went to Czechia, so with Pesce and Luke out the first 2 games it looks like he'll make his pro debut.

Virtually none of the Rangers starters will play, either. Pretty much an AHL game.
which is devastating to MTL because they don't have any depth and to him looking to resurrect his career, but also better than the alternative. (if true).
but kind of cool seeing Marty's kid in net. Played the whole game and damn near got a shutout. Let one in with under 2 minutes left. Also Tom Fitzgerald's kid Casey is trying to make the Rangers and played too.

Apparently Cam Neely in a press conference mentioned the Bruins offered $64M (presumably 8x8 is my guess) and apparently for Swayman and his agent that was the first time they heard about it.
By dealing Ullmark the Bruins kind of boxed them into a corner. Sure they can roll with Korpisalo if they want to be a middling team, but Swayman is the goods IMO.

Yeah the guys I listen to on NHL radio Boomer and Jake Hahn made some good points about this yesterday. I guess over the years in Boston going back to Ray Bourque was you take less $ for "better of the team". Bourque always did it, Bergeron & Marchant did it. Well Swayman is new school and having none of it. Though it may be outdated because its not like Pasta took a bargain deal. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Say it drifts into the season and they get off to a 4-1/5-0 start with Korpisalo? or the other way around they struggle? definitely will be interesting to watch. Couldn't happen to a nicer orginization. Screw'em.

Isn't the agent (Gross) the same guy who held out Nylander from TOR until Dec? Seems this is going that route.
I really like Swayman - but to demand 9.5 per year versus getting 8/8 when you haven't carried the load yourself yet seems over valued. And I don't get the idea that it is Swayman who needs set the bar for goaltender contracts - why him?
Bruins fan here, but if he doesn't take the 8 mil (if true) I'd consider a trade.
This entire thing has sign the eventual contract, come in, under perform, get hurt.....never return to form.
but here is how he replied to ESPN when Neely said in the press conference "...but I know that I have 64 million reasons I'd be playing right now..." in reference to Swayman.
Quote:
..."Normally, I do not release statements or discuss negotiations through the media," Gross said in a statement on Instagram. "However, in this case, I feel I need to defend my client. At today's press conference, $64 million was referenced. That was the first time that number was discussed in our negotiations. Prior to the press conference, no offer was made reaching that level."
"We are extremely disappointed. This was not fair to Jeremy," Gross continued. "We will take a few days to discuss where we go from here."...
So someone is lying or posturing. And while I don't trust the agent, he seems more genuine to me than Neely.
Hello, gents, nice to re-make your acquaintances over here
pretty easy to slide away from the gridiron in these parts, isn't it?
Lots of young talent in the Eastern Conf., lots to be optimistic about, if you're not a NYR fan--waiting for pj to peg them, yet again, as one of SC pre-season favorites (:>. I'd say there are at least four in the East I'd peg ahead of them--and if I had to select a captain and navigator at the bridge through an iceberg laden sea, it wouldn't be the current helmsman (did take in "To Have and Have Not" this w/e, Bogie and Bacall in a 'Casablanca' type battle vs Vichy but this time on Martinique, where Harry Morgan is a fishing boat captain).
As middling as so-called 1st line was this past year, I don't see them getting better, even as the RW re-cycling continues, year older, yet another year dug-in to their declining play. Agree with Greg on the Henrik comp: at his best, Igor is better, but consistency has not been his game past two seasons.
Gaudreau tragedies just awful, sad. Has there been more on the criminal in the killer vehicle?
Let's see if I can capture the image here, Bader's prospect ranking for each team: there's BOS, TB, and (surprisingly) OTT behind the Rangers, but the rest of the Conference and all their Division are ranked way higher. He notes that Askarov propels Ducks to the top.
three days until opening day (for the global series teams: NJD vs BUF at least).
And yes, I do think NYR are at worst a contender for the cup.
No one in the East got markedly better, and the NYR return most of their Presidents Trophy winning team. I think NYR fans will like Reilly Smith more than they think.
And for the record, many sites list the Mika, Kreider, Smith line as the 2nd line now with Panarin, Trocheck and Lafreniere as the top line.
One of the best 3rd lines in hockey, best goalie in the league, 4th line with grit and size, perennial Norris contender driving the PP. Still need a veteran D IMO (David Savard?) but there is no team I see and feel like the Rangers cannot compete with them. None.
on BBI for games on ice. We take our cues from you, the relevant, timing, players and trends to note. So, if I may (and surely I won't be deputized) on behalf of all, thanks for leading us once again out of the gridiron wilderness that is the last decade's birthright of this board. Please excuse this ensuing rambling wreck of Drury Tech; I've been bored with nothing of interest at Mara Tech.
To your blue tinted glasses--why someone as clearsighted and knowledgeable as you insists on doing this year after year re. NYR team outlook, I have no idea; --if it is Fox you refer to, who surely he is, his standard has slipped: family life, nicks and injuries, inattention at critical moments deep in his own end as he shovels the puck to...open ice between the circles and a swooping wing of the wrong jersey? He has imo a lot of ground to make up to recover the status you award him.
Thank you for putting that 1st line stuff to bed. Can 93 and 20 play a 200' game, more the question is will they? Can Zib shake out of his funk? More talk, muffled as it will be around here for some, of maybe dealing CK next year (I think his NMC is gone or relaxes by then), but getting a franchise moving return?? That ship has surely sailed.
The Igor contract thing, and in the context of Swayman, so interesting and important to the future construction of the team. Dreary has not shown himself to be much ahead of the curve, so I don't know. If he holds out, will the Igor chants be squelched? Drury and his predecessors have themselves to blame for this top heavy contracted roster.
I saw Edstrom and Rempe a couple of times at B'port, and when each had some appearances at MSG, I mentioned that Edstrom was the better skater, even if neither was esp. good around the net. And then the Rempe thing took off. Maybe Laviolette can catch some lightning in bottles. Unleash them, Cuylle.
Rick will be glad if Jones is unleashed, so will many of us. So much bad positioning and skates stuck in cement from this group, JT picking up where he left off last year in SCP in the very first Exh. game, yeesh. Will Key finally be consistent in his own end and pick up the stray forward or d-man on his side? I've been a big Lindgren supporter (team's W-L with him vs w/o him is remarkable), but Greg's Girardi syndrome is worrisome.
I think this season in the East is going to see some significant shuffling of teams heading north and south in the standings. You guys have mentioned Sens. Stu's and others' Devils will realize upon much of the promise that was supposed to be theirs last year and '23-'24 will be a distant memory. Flyers don't get much mention; hell, they were a tough out for everyone last quarter of the season with an allegedly talent-challenged roster. They have more pieces this year. Torts loves this stuff. Habs are getting stacked. Will Wings, Sabres, Isles, and BJs make some real noise? But the Panthers are the Chiefs of the East.
and I am not a Rangers fan so I feel like that allows me to be more unbiased with my evaluation.
Fox finished 4th in Norris voting last year, behind only Hughes, Josi, and Makar, a year after coming in second and two years after finishing 5th and three years after winning the award. 4 years in a row top 5 with one win - he's only been in the league 5 years.
I feel like it's fair to say he's a perennial Norris contender.

#NYR injury update: Artemi Panarin will not return to tonight's preseason game against #NJDevils with lower-body injury
if it's a grade 1, sometimes that requires a longer healing process than a tear and repair
I expected a torn ACL he'd be done for the season. Kirby Dach tore his ACL game 3 last year and he was done. So the fact Laine's time-table is 2-3 months indicates the injury was less severe (to me and I am pretty illiterate medically - tears, sprains, strains, breaks, bruises - just tell me when they're back). but as bad as say Belichick is with being forthcoming on injuries, the NHL by and large is worse.
you're lucky if you get upper or lower body identified.
the voting tabs are what they are, undeniably in his/your favor. All said my eyes told me too often that he wasn't playing at the level voters said he was. To be fair he was dinged pretty badly twice, the first on the 'oops, did I stick my knee out on his?" by Aho, I think it was. If the Canes go badly south in the standings, no tears here (sorry Jints, hope you are good)
you just know he and Torts is a hockey match made in hell. Its only a matter of time before Michkov is lazy on a back check and Torts flips out on him in the postgame presser.
you just know he and Torts is a hockey match made in hell. Its only a matter of time before Michkov is lazy on a back check and Torts flips out on him in the postgame presser.
Is he lazy? I know a lot of euros, especially Russians, do have that reputation, I haven't seen enough of him to say.
but agree with you - that won't last long with Torts.
He just needs to stay healthy. He was clearly impacted by the knee in the playoffs and it crippled any chance they may have had at advancing to the finals.

On balance yours and pj's may be the better view--I did caveat mine with his injuries that clearly hampered his play. Where I still hold mine is the increased propensity to unforced turnovers in his own end, sometimes looked like involuntary nudges of the puck ahead with no clear pass or clear in mind.

With being in synagogue all morning and the big meal afterwards
Just caught up with Devils-Sabres on DVR. Nice start to the season overseas. The newcomers all fueled the engine with Noesen, Kovacevic scoring and Cotter adding an empty netter. Nico with a snipe for the other one. Markstrom was superb too. He's really like Hellybuck in that when he's on he sure takes up a ton of the net with his size. The D held up despite the absence of Pesce & Luke. Quiet day for the top line of Jack-Bratt-Timo but you know they'll get theirs. I like Sheldon Keefe's attitude. From the sounds of it he has a good organized system and seems to keep the room loose. Bizarre to see Lindy on the opposite bench so soon.

Loved Kovacevik on MTL, he just slot in anywhere. He doesn't usually add much offense, so I was surprised to see him on the stat sheet, but he can play in any D pair, he can play physical, he can move the puck, he can drop the gloves.
Merrimack alum.
I believe MTL claimed him off waivers from WIN.
When Keefe was asked in the post game presser about the unexpected
Last year never happened. Devs with another dominant performance. Seamus Casey with a sick toe drag pp snipe. Cotter with the gwg on a feed from Hughes. Timo finishes the scoring. That line finally broke through late with the Timo goal. They combined for 19 shots. Don’t know if Buffalo is any good, and it’s early but they can score and have skill so impressive shutting them down over 2 days. The vets Fitz brought in over the summer have made a huge difference.
I always felt the NHL pre-season came the closest of all the sports to resembling the regular season. It's amazing with the Devils. They couldn't have looked worse. Then as soon as the horn sounded to start the year they were a different team. Pre season is absolutely meaningless in all sports as a barometer of what's gonna happen once the bell rings.
Gonna be at the Rangers opener in Pittsburgh on Wednesday
Nice enjoy! Disappointing story. My good highschool buddy who actually got me into the Devils lives in Israel since highschool. He was all excited he had tickets for both games in Prague and was all set to go but with the Iran bombings this week it closed the airport and his flight got cancelled wasn't able to get out. Thank God for the missile defense system and there were almost no casualties. He had been looking forward to it for months though.
He always puts in a request for them when they play the Rangers. Great seats - center ice about ten rows behind the penalty boxes. Last year my dad and I went up to see the Rangers. This year dad’s hip is acting up and he doesn’t fancy a long car ride so I’m taking my son to his first Rangers game. Managed to talk my wife into letting him miss a couple of days of school for it.

If 8/8 is on the table, would they actually take it? Or is there now hard feelings that the Bruins are lying/using the media?
If Swayman really wants to be a Bruin and the offer is what they would take, why not say if 8/8 is the offer we are signing. Let's see the contract.
