very true, but good way to satisfy the fans on the post game show.....but no doubt keeping it in-house is the way to handle it...wanna bet he walks it back tomorrow
This was my thought. It's week 3 in his first season without the interim tag. I don't see this ending well. The rah rah HC has a shelf life and he's already making these comments?

Agree. He's already yanking his qb and questioning the heart of the team and it's week 3 of a rebuild. I'm getting Mike Singletary vibes. I hate saying that because I loved pierce here

That was my first reaction too. Reminded me too much of Singletary and showed he was more mouth than a coach.
I don't think Pierce is any danger of losing the locker room
The players credit him for their comeback against the Ravens last week. I think everybody on the team knows who made a business decision and they'll handle it internally and rally around it.
Im interested to see how it plays out. Pierce was in the pads himself not too ling ago. I think that buys a little cache in the locker room to make statements like this.
A coach has to have the players back him or it is over. He is nothing without the players
I remember Jeff Van Gundy after coaching told how he would tell his players he would have their back always in public good or bad on the court. He would take the head publicly
As others have said this is not trending well for Pierce

If some guys are not playing hard anyway, then what exactly are you losing? He needs to purge the team of any players who are not giving 100%
hire a fiery player as your HC. I like AP and think he will be a good HC. But he doesn't have a long history of coaching and that chew nails take no prisoners approach works great when you are winning. But you can go over board when you lose. Gotta to be able to calm yourself down before these pressers.
I think the same thing about Dan Campbell sometimes. He has a better team and more success, but the knee biting stuff works when your winning, but he said some pretty strong and fan demoralizing stuff about not making it back when the Lions lost the NFC Champ gm last year.
No surprise that the raiders had a big let down after
AP still needs to earn respect as a coach and comments like this will make it infinitely harder for him.
it's the old "call out" vs. "call in" conundrum. if there are players not pulling their weight, or worse yet, making "business decisions," that's a "call in" moment, meaning you bring that person in for a private heart to heart.
a call out like this - in the media, no less - without naming names, potentially alienates anyone in the locker room who isn't playing well, even if it's not them that he has in mind.

I don't know if it's great that he called it out like that, but if it's happening, letting it go without comment seems like it'd be worse.

Also, them playing Carolina with a QB change reminded me of the Giants playing the Raiders after the coaching change last year.
