Memphis, UTSA, Tulane, and South Florida were widely expected to be the next group of schools to join the newly constituted Pac-12. Instead today they issued a joint statement to reaffirm their membership to the AAC.
Left scrambling the aftermath, the Pac-12 extended membership offers to Utah State and UNLV, who was snubbed in the initial group of four Mountain West defections (Boise, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Colorado State).
It sounds like Utah State has accepted while UNLV declined as they stand to take a large chunk of the $100m in buyout fees from the departing schools to remain in the MWC. Air Force is also now expected to remain. The Gonzaga basketball deal is also supposedly dead.
I feel like this is far from done.
