Part of the story of last week's game (IMO) is Deshaun Watson is absolutely terrible. A shell of the guy coming out of Clemson. Some cry about the DJ contract but that Watson contract is on a whole different tier of suck.
Bowen also caught the Browns with their pants down (like Flores did to the Giants in week 1). (Watson said after the game they were not expecting the Giants to blitz, and he had no idea where they were coming from.)
If they can put a solid showing together vs. DAL, it will start getting interesting. I do expect the Cowboys D to start playing better soon, too. Zimmer's too good a coach, and they've got too much talent not to.
a bitch game.. Fun season continues -Dan and crew driving stake thru their D hearts.. Our OL is physical thank you Father Carmen and we have weapons across the field.. and a QB starting to get more comfortable with his reads and his legs... Lets Go Game 4!
We have 4 monsters on the line... and a D that can cover their freaking TE. Double Lamb, and lets go.. Game 4
Going in has to be to run the ball. We need to limit time of possession- Dak will make hay against us in the passing game. Ferguson worries me more than Ceedee, Dallas TE always kill us.
I look for Tracy’s role to continue to expand. Good dual threat as runner and passcatcher. Dallas will try to stuff the run, double Nabers, and make the other guys make plays. I think Tracy can be a playmaker; we also need a big game from Wandale.
If we can run the ball effectively, I think we can win. No run game, and we’re looking at another blowout. Dak is just much better than DJ, so our path to a win is somewhat limited, but not impossible. Still think it’s a longshot but let’s see what happens.
LB Ty Summers is being signed to the Giants active roster, per source. He was out of elevations after being activated from the practice squad for each of the first three games.
Summers takes the roster spot created when FB/TE Jakob Johnson was released on Tuesday.
#Giants
The ship has sailed for me as far as Jones is concerned overall
But if he wants one more lifeline from me, even if it's just for 2024 only and to see if he can manage to keep the Giants name relevant beyond the first couple days of fall, go out and build on the Cleveland performance. Go score 28+ points. Play like anything other than a broken robot at MetLife Stadium.
Win this game and the Giants will rightfully earn some attention. Lose, and Cleveland was a mere blip on the radar screen and we are in fact headed for 1-7 or 2-6 at best.
At a much more visceral level, until the Giants show me otherwise, Dallas will continue to kick the living daylights out of Big Blue. And if Daniel Jones continues his wild throws 20+ yards downfield, it will be a real beat down.
Agree about running the ball. The DB's being out is a huge deal imv so I think they need one of those games where they control not only the LoS but the clock. Getting the lead early would be a nice start.
We need to shorten the game by running the ball to keep the Dallas offense off the field. Their WRs will destroy our secondary. On defense, we will hopefully be able to stuff their run. As you note, their OL isn't nearly as strong as it was, and their RBs are nothing special.

Yeah, I'm expecting this to be a come back to earth game for the Giants (go ffigure after one win) and a get right game for Dallas, as it typically is and which pisses me off. Dallas has too much talent and a decent enough staff for the Giants to compete with right now. I don't think it will send us into a tailspin but will be a learning loss as Daboll and Co., continue to get schooled by that bum McCarthy. Glad he figured out how to beat the Eagles last year and I'm hoping for at least one victory each against the Cowboys and Eagles. Just think the Giants are still getting there feet under them.
these are the kind of games that show if real progress has been made
These are the games that make or break a season and sometimes a regime. WIn it and it turns season and expectations around. Lose and the sharks start to circle again, especially if blown out. This is the best chance in years to beat these pricks. Win the damn game.
Zack Martin still going strong. How history may have changed if the Giants chose him in 2014 and Ryan Ramczyk instead of Evan Engram, we'll never know.

What difference has Quenton Nelson made for the Colts after Andrew Lucks's early retirement? Not much.
Offensive linemen do not change the trajectory of a franchise if you don't have a QB. And only the phenomenon that was the young OBJ propped up the stats of fading Eli.
The 11-5 2016 NYG team would have been sub-.500 without OBJ.
Ryan Ramczyk is effectively finished. Shut down half way through 2023 and missing all of 2024 with degenerating knee cartilage.
And how many playoff games, let alone Super Bowls, have Zack Martin and Ryan Ramczyk actually won?
Martin is 3-6 in postseason, never getting past a first round win.
RR is 3-4 in postseason, also never getting past the first round.
Historical stuff.
It Will Be Very Interesting To See Which Defensive Strategy
Prescott is the consummate "game manager". He's never among the "scary QBs", but typically his accurate short passing and minimal number of mistakes lets him march down the field if you let him. But Prescott is also typically good against the blitz, as I recall.
So I'd guess a mix of successful man / blitzing approach used versus Cleveland and the zone / bend don't break approach used versus Washington.
I think the key is going to be to have multiple approaches and keep switching things up. Force Prescott into uncharacteristic (at least for the regular season) mistakes.
Giants had a two time SB MVP QB. That poster is correct and a very good OL absolutely changes the trajectory of the franchise. Mara pointed out this past off season when they had a really good one they also won a lot of games.
Philly and Dallas have mostly had very good to great ones for the past decade plus.
Last year were the Colts and Falcons. 40% of the top 10 were non playoff teams . The Chiefs were 18, San Fran 21, Ravens 5 and Lions 2. The two title game teams with top 10 olines lost to two teams with more weapons or a better QB.
had two AP OL and probably the best interior OL in the league (RG is really good also). Detroit has one of the better OL's in the league. SF has a future first ballot HOF LT to start. Both those teams played in the NFCCG. Philly in the SB the year before had the best OL in the league. Etc.
But we do this every year and I won’t be fooled again. I fully expect this to be the cowboys “get right” game and we once again look like fools on national TV

I'm not going to do chapter and verse on Eli but he wasn't the same athlete by 2014. And certainly not by 2017.
You only get to draft one player in the first round, not an entire offensive line. Drafting Zack Martin in 2014 would have given the Giants one player.
And the Giants did draft OL in the first round in both 2013 and 2015 (at John Mara's direction and support). Didn't do a whole lot of good.
Regretting Ryan Ramcyzk (rather than the non-move-up for Patrick Mahomes) from the 2017 draft is probably what Mara does.
defensive gameplan was meant to be unleashed this week against Dallas?
Given the situation last week - I get why they rolled it out and if were them, I would have felt good about the defense with what they had schemed up. But now that the element of surprise is gone...
It'll be interesting to see what Dallas does offensively how Bowen counters. If memory serves correctly, Dak is one of the better NFL QBs against the blitz. Now that the Giants have shown some of their blitz packages, Dallas will get that tape have some answers...
I think the real mismatch in this game is Ferguson. This might be a Belton/Simmons game where we see them play a bunch to match up against him and hope the front four can contain the running game.
With the TE matchup and the Dallas WR having the clear advantage over the Giants secondary - I think the Giants would be well served to get up early, play ball control offense and play a lot of zone to keep everything in front of them and make Dak drive the length of the field every time and keep them to 3s instead of 7s. Relying on the Bowen's strong red zone defense.
I think strategically I see them playing a lot more defense like they did against Wash than Clev.
Man - I love this stuff - thanks Eric. I hate it when the previews are 30,000 ft view stuff b/c the game itself no longer matters.

You like seeing the Dallas OL crush NYG every year?
Hey, you can always find serviceable OL in rounds 5-7. 😉
but I don't share Eric's sense of reserved optimism.
I don't think the matchups look good for us. On defense, we are weak/banged up in the secondary and they have a solid QB, receivers and tight end. I think their OL is better than Cleveland's so it will be tough to duplicate 17 QB hits and 8 sacks.
On offense, they are weaker up the middle but we haven't yet shown a power run game that matches up. We have a star receiver, but they are going to put a top CB on Nabers the way CLE did in the second half. The other targets have to step up and they may, but haven't yet.
I am hopeful, and agree the gap may be narrower, but it has been a pretty wide gap. I also see the dysfunction in Dallas right now and can hope that persists another week. I think the Cowboys regard us as a "right the ship" type game, and it would be really sweet of we could win and cause greater panic in Dallas...
Have put roughly the same amount of draft resources into the Oline since 2013.
The people who make the picks have to account for them, either by shoring it up with FAs if their picks don't work out, or ceding the duty to someone else.
Result oriented business. Giants actually had to make up a lot in FA going back over a decade plus and that rarely ends well. If you miss on your higher draft picks then best to make it up with later draft picks or UDFA.
Just got an email from amazon Prime promoting the game
They mention Dak, CeeDee, and Micah as leading the Cowboys to face the Giants, with not a single Giant mentioned by name. I know they aren't a great team. But, you put them on prime time and have enough names to match that. Dexter is perhaps the best DL in the game right now (certainly best interior DL) and Nabers is already establishing himself as one of the top WRs in the league. 3 weeks in, he is the best rookie. Throw in Jones for name recognition, if not star power. But, not a single player highlighted?

I'm very bullish on JMS, he appears to have turned the rookie corner. And Thomas's performance was a big career outlier. My guess is the Cleveland game was the exception when it comes to the offensive line group's performance this year.
I'm a big believer in the unit over the individuals, so I don't sweat any single move over the years. Build a cohesive and judge them on the collective performance.
