Daniel Jones in Prime Time

GiantTuff1 : 9/26/2024 3:17 pm
will he show up tonight?

We all recall the 0-8 MNF stat, and then an undrafted FA comes in last year and wins his first prime time game against a playoff bound team like it’s a walk in the park.

According to CBS Sports Jones is 1-12 in prime time (.077 win %). That is the worst prime time record since 1970 among QB’s with 10+ starts (by a country mile). The top four are Jones, Andy Dalton (.222), Jeff George (.227), Ken Anderson (.231). Bonus points to anyone who can remember the lone win.

People are focusing a lot on how Jones (and most QBs) performs in general but I think a major part of evaluating a player should be greatly weighted on:
1. How he performs against good teams and
2. How he performs when the lights are brightest and pressure is highest

Will be interesting to see who shows up tonight.

Feels like the entire team has been awful in prime time for ages

It's bizarre.
yikes

I feel like I remember this being mentioned about Dalton. To see Jones have an even worse record by far in that same situation is just crazy.

I guess we're due.
Ugh

I'm hoping and praying our improved OL can start changing the narrative! Lean on the run, the 'Pokes are putrid against it. Sprinkle in a ton of Nabers, and who knows.
Look at these splits
GiantTuff1 : 9/26/2024 3:25 pm : link
He's an almost .500 QB in non prime time, and the worst of all-time in prime time. I'm not sure how you can place odds on him ever winning a SB just based on this.

Some extremely tough losses in these games as well...
Chris684 : 9/26/2024 3:26 pm : link
None tougher than probably @ Washington in 2021 when Dex jumped offside on the missed FG giving Wash another opportunity.

There is the Thursday night game in 2020 in which Engram dropped what would have been the clinching first down catch.

The Chiefs game in 2021 was also winnable.

Lots of garbage like the Dallas game last year as well.

I think prime time

Is a huge part of the stench that hangs over this team in the general media, and deservedly so. And for us fans, it's doubly shitty because they're the most hyped games that everyone watches - so that futility becomes a personal embarrassment.

Just as all good things come to an end, so do all bad ones - eventually. Were I praying man and sports was worth petitioning the lord, I'd be doing that for tonight. It would be so so nice to be 2-2 with that monkey off the team's back.

I have no expectations. But at the very least, please -- not another stunningly awful deflating play right out of the tunnel.

Hey, he's .500 in the playoffs! :)
We are usually going to be facing
Jerry in_DC : 9/26/2024 4:53 pm : link
better teams in prime time. And we usually get slaughtered by good teams. If we played bad teams, we'd probably be around .500.

Jones actually did play well in that loss at Washington. I thought that was one of his better games.

to have a QB for the past six years to whom the descriptor "worst of all time" can be applied.

Kerry Collins played a great game against the Viking in the playoffs too
I think even the Parcells teams struggled

The lengths you guys go to spin Jones
HardTruth : 9/26/2024 5:43 pm : link
Some really tough losses in there….no kidding. Do you think he is only QB who has had close losses? Dalton never had one in his terrible monday record? Jones has played 13 prime time games. Id hope some of them were close

An “almost .500” record out if primetime. He is 21-26 outside of prime time. I dont see how thats good or helps his case.

And his lone win was a 160 yd passing zero TDs performance with 35 rushing and the offense scored 13 pts

Thibodeaux happened to have all-time epic game with a TD, 12 tackles, a sack, 3 TFLs and another QB hit

The game had a bit of a controversy ending ending at the 2 yd line with Washington going for a potential tie

Fucking stupid comment. Just stop. The stench of this idiocy doesn't need to infect every thread.
Every year I look at the schedule
WillieYoung : 9/26/2024 5:56 pm : link
and hope we have no primetime games. This goes back before Jones as Eli's teams lost a lot of primetime games after 2011.
Sunday at 1 is my favorite Giants' gametime.
even going back to the Eli era...
jnoble : 9/26/2024 6:04 pm : link
The Giants have rarely if ever played well on SNF/MNF/TNF. If you want to go back as far as 2001, we got beaten badly by Denver on the opening MNF game with Kerry Collins
IDK if Jones just feels more pressure
Simms11 : 9/26/2024 6:23 pm : link
and tries to press or he’s just not good in night games.
...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 9/26/2024 6:55 pm : link
I'm obviously no Jones fan, but the team has generally sucked most of those primetime games too so it isn't like we've been good & Jones has completely held us back.

The list of painful losses is so long. Not Jones related, but 2010 in Philly was brutal.

to create a strangle grip as the #1 worst QB of all-time in prime time.
Very insightful and prohetic post.

I didn't see it until after the game and assumed it was posted as a post mortem. Posting this in the afternoon before...wow.
