At this point why the fuck is he protecting Jones who was average at best.
My best guess is that Wellington Mara does not want to raise the white flag this early in the season. But it will happen, unless the Giants go on a miraculous winning streak.

Because these guys made the decision to sign him to the contract he has, and made the decision to not bring in anyone to even push him for the job. The media speculated that Lock may be competition for him, and the Giants immediately ran him out there to announce he is only a backup.
This team’s first priority is to protect Jones. It’s second priority is to win football games.
The defense while undermanned still held up enough. The one big play to Lamb was inexcusable but in the past would have been the breaking of the damn.
The offenses moved the ball and controlled the clock but couldn't find the endzone. Robinsons drop was killer but who knows if we would have punched it in anyway.
I think game plan and compete level was good. You can criticize the FG's and the playing to keep the game close. I think they had little faith in the DB's and planned around it.
On the 4th down play to Nabers, Jones did an excellent job of moving around, finding and delivering the ball to Nabers on the sideline. Not an easy catch at all but if he makes it more people would talk about the play Jones made to save the game.
The big concern I have is with the inability to run the ball. We came out in different formations to attack a perceived weakness but I feel it was outside of what we do well.
If we are gonna run straight ahead why not put Neal in as a blocking TE? Manhertz is in there just to block and he is not getting it done. Also Van Rotten just doesn't seem to be physical in the run game. I feel like he is on his guy but not moving him. Would Stinne get more push? Is it something were he is expecting help from the center?
I wonder if it would help to have one larger, more powerful running back. Sometimes, having that guy who can get 3-4 yards a pop will keep the chains moving.

I think Gray's running style would have worked better in the plan they went with, just don't think they have faith in him.
They seem to stuck on wanting to emphasize speed everywhere. I would have liked to see a big back in the draft and was hoping Allen or Estime would have made it to us in the 5th.

Wellington Mara ain't raising much of anything these days.
of that style of running - is he too obsessed with speed?
I also think it'd e a good time for Johnson's growth spurt to happen and get more involved in the offense.
And it didn't help for Phillips to be out.
I have been waiting for Johnson too. We are getting nothing form our TE's yet playing 3 of them significant snaps.
I'm worried it might be a disconnect between Coach and GM. We keep bringing in guys that are explosive gamechanger types but then play a game style that would call for more physical tone setter types.
Even Nabers who is as explosive as they come was getting targeted on these short routes underneath guys and he is getting hammered from behind as he catches the ball.
We have a YAC based passing attack with a QB who is not accurate enough to lead the receivers to space.
