I am optimistic every off season. I was optimistic going into last night because it was clear Dallas is not a formidable team and the gap seems narrowed. I was even optimistic during the game. The game is over and we FUCKING LOST.
I don't want to read "at least it was a close game" or anything else of the sort. There are no fucking moral victories or silver liniings when this is the norm. How many seasons is it now in the last dozen or so that are essentially over by October 1?
And please, do NOT come argue about Jones was not the problem. The biggest fucking problem we have is that we are in year 6 of a #6 pick who is still not even remotely part of the solution. I do not take any solace in the fact that he didn't completely suck. It is impossible to not see the handful or so of badly thrown balls on plays that could have blown the doors off Dallas. Great, Jones did a nice job of avoiding the sack and buying time on that ill fated final play. But, he also made a horrible throw that played a part in Nabers now being concussed. This is a play that true top 10 QBs throw a seed on. Yes, it still requires a tough catch often. But, that seed is the throw we NEVER see. He is still a QB that has won 1 fucking prime time game in 6 seasons.
There are no silver linings. There are no moral victories. There is a 3rd loss in 4 tries. There are 2 games out of 4 where we didn't score a fucking TD. There is becoming the first team ever to lose in regulation after scoring 3 TDs and not giving one up. There is averaging less than 2 YPC last night against a D that had been shredded the previous 3 weeks. There is our D being off the field most of the night due to us actually owning TOP, and yet still getting run over in the 4th Q to a team that couldn't run the ball the previous 3 weeks. There are the bookend DE/LBs who were supposed to be monsters this year, yet maybe have a literal handful of impactful plays between them through 4 games. There is a D that finally got aggressive last week and blitzed and got to the QB only to return to passive no blitz/no pressure and then people want to complain about the secondary only. There is the Giants handing yet another game to Dallas, even though Dallas was banged up and tried to give the game to us.
It's another loss in another season over by October 1. There is no silver lining. The only question I have left for this team is will they actually bench Jones at some point? I don't ask because I am naiive enough to think someone else will make a big difference. The whole DeVito thing was last year. This year there is no pass for being an UDFA. If he plays, he needs to earn a fucking roster spot for next year. No, I ask because of the FUCKING moronic injury clause in the already bloated contract of an injury prone player. I will lose my shit if we are subjected to another season of Jones because he gets injured yet again and turns the 1 cuttable season on the deal into a guaranteed nightmare.
That's the only thing to worry about the rest of the way, as we now have 3 full months of posts coming looking at draft prospects...and it's not yet October. There is no moral victory in any of that.
And stop with the posts about a miserable fanbase or anything of the sort. It is more problematic for a fanbase to embrace mediocrity. This season isn't an aberration; it has been the norm for more than 10 years.
Lot of blame to go around.
Lot of blame to go around.
Overall, I actually think Schoen has done a decent job on the roster. He completely overhauled it and on paper it is trending up, with some more work to do. But, a few mis-steps have been the most critical and top of the list is that Jones contract. They are headed to another top 5 pick. There is a decent chance Daboll is gone if this season persists. If that's the case. I'd rather have a new GM hand pick his HC and select the QB of their collective choice. New, GM. New HC. New QB.
Prior to this year his first round draft picks are not looking good.
Burns has not been a difference maker.
But worst of all he has totally screwed the QB position. That's the leader of the team.
This conversation in Hard Knocks said it all (paraphrasing):
Schoen: "So you ok rolling with Daniel Jones?"
Dabs: "Sure"
The position they are in now is much better than in 17-19, when they deluded themselves completely about a last Eli run, or the judge era, or the uncompetitive team they fielded last year in the first part of the schedule.
I didn't feel like that way when prime Eli was in NY. When the Giants were down 5 and they had to drive the length of the field in 3 minutes - my only worry was whether Eli would score too quickly and leave time on the clock for the other team to get a crack at the NYG defense.
I knew we weren't winning that game last night, or any other game in which DJ was the QB in the same situation. On the few occasions he has - it was a surprise.
If I feel it as a fan - no doubt the players in that locker room feel the same way.
Me neither - my wife told me that she loves it when the Giants suck. Come Nov/Dec I'll record the game and watch whenever. I'll do other stuff on Sundays. That wasn't the case a decade ago. Sunday was an event. I would never miss it. I would yell _ scream _ make a scene >>>> those days are over now>
“Giants let their best player leave in free agency,” “Giants DC runs away from home,” “Coach is an angry mess on sidelines,” “Organization publicly tries to move on from QB but is stuck with him.”
Maybe the front office needs some more senior positions filled with Mara family members? Maybe hire back some of the top ones working in other organizations around the league?
Oh yeah…
All have under performed. That is a major reason why we are where we are. Oh and add in Jones.

The personnel decisions have been terrible. The two best players on this team, despite all of the high picks, are two this regime inherited.
Nabers? Great talent and may end up being a steal. But if one of the QBs on the board when they picked him becomes a stud, that pick will also have an asterisk on it.
You can argue whether these were bad picks, or whether our coaches can’t develop players, but this is happening too consistently to blame the individual players each time. There is a bigger problem.
Middle of the pack!? Which pack are you referring too?
Forget the bullshit ranking numbers. Do you *actually* think he was the 6th best (or anywhere near the 6th best) QB in 2022?
He's not good, he's never been good for an entire season and he never will be. This team will NEVER be a serious championship contender with Jones as its starter.
Holy shit, when will some of you people accept that Jones is not the answer?

This is how I am.
I'm with you guys. I no longer get all upset over the losses. I've accepted what we are and what we will continue to be, until the one common denominator over the last 6 years of ineptitude is replaced with a much better option.
Last year we averaged 15 points a game with a bottom 3 OL, no #1 WR, and nothing at TE. This year, those areas are addressed and we still average 15 points per game. We have 2 of 4 games with no TDs. NONE. ZERO. At what point will it be clear that falls chiefly on the QB?
Look, for 3 weeks Jones has looked good. By good I mean that in the literal term like good, not great. That's a welcome improvement. But a #6 pick in year 6 making $45M per year (which put him in the top 10 or even 5 when it was signed) should be much better than just OK. He should be a difference maker and part of the solution, not someone who played decent. I know every QB misses throws in a game. And, yes he had one of his better comp% games. But, the throws he misses are the same throws he always misses. Since his rookie year, he has never replicated the success on deep throws and he continues to throw balls badly behind receivers. These two, plus bird dogging his first read are a big reason we don't score.
Last night was actually the first time in years I recall seeing him noticeably look off a defender, but it only happened once.

I was thinking this morning, I know this thread was started out of heated emotion soon after the game. I know in a week I will be back to rooting for a win and, while not expecting one in Seattle, I will expect a good performance and be disappointed if we lose. I also know that next week really is crucial. The odds are stacked against us with the way Seattle is playing and they are at home. But, going 1-4 really cements the season. At least if they pull off a miracle, they come back home to a struggling Cincy team with a shot to at least stay relevant.
But, I fail to see how emotionally charged fans disappointed in a loss when we could have and should have won for the 2nd time in this short season are the problem. How is the problem in the fanbase not those who still think "well we played a close game against Dallas" is acceptable or who still think we are winning anything with Jones? Accepting mediocrity is the problem, not asking for something more.
i do think they need a new qb and coach or both. I do think the talent base is improved and will trend positive once they address the coach and the qb.
