The Jones topic has been beaten to death. This guy was drafted for his YAC and was straight up terrible last night. It seems like every week we see players our defense miss and extend drives.
and then shit the bed. I like Wandale, but he has some Barkley in him - trying to do too much and making dumb mistakes. There’s only 2 plus players on offense (Nabers and Thomas) and Wandale is basically next - the pressure is probably getting to him.
And think he can be a huge weapon. But he was not very good last night. The drop was a killer - he ran too many routes short of the sticks, and didn’t make many miss.
All of our best players out of town again? Wan’dale had a good game. Remember a few seasons ago we had Ritchie James, Hodgins, and David Sills. I for one am grateful he have Wan’dale.
a very good player IMO. He has a lot of short area quickness. He made several defenders miss last night and as a consequence was able to turn up field and get a first down. Despite the drop, his hands are reliable. But he's mostly an underneath player, and because he's short, is sometimes hard for a QB to see.
play where he just ran OOB was insane. WTF was he doing?
WTF was Jones doing throwing to him once he ran out of field space.. There was another play where WDR could have picked up 15-20 yards but Jones throws to him (running left to right) so that WDR has to spin around to catch a ball that was VERY poorly placed!!!
No more excuses.. To use Schoen's hard Knocks comment against him, put Mahomes behind our Oline this year and we are 3-1 or maybe even 4-0.
And Robinson is flirting with it. He’s a fine player as your 4th option maybe but this offense will continue to be comically terrible if he’s going to be relied on to do anything of substance on a regular basis
1) Yes, Robinson had 2 crucial drops and didn't get a lot of YAC when they really needed them. But, the talk about him as a bust (I've seen it in threads) is ridiculous. He is the 2nd best player on our offense, and that isn't a tallest midget scenario. He has speed, quickness, and is usually reliable.
2) That said, he needs to work on knowing where the sticks are and where the sideline is. On at least 3 occasions he caught balls just short of the sticks on 3rd down. On all 3 he couldn't spin or free himself for the needed yards. He ran out of bounds on a scramble. Granted, at that point Jones shouldn't have thrown it to him. But, on a scramble if you run out of real estate, you need to do something to make yourself a target again. You don't just keep going to the sideline. At least stop.
3) Both drops were horrible. In his hands with room to run.
And actually plays it well. Unfortunately that role is dependent on other players to stretch the field to give him more underneath to work with. With how poor Jones has been on the deep balls the safeties are starting to creep back up in the box which will limit his YAC.
RE: The major problem is he was taken ahead of Pickens
Wandale isn't Darren Sproles, and the pick was a fit rather than based on talent on the board. Since the ACL, he doesn't have the shiftiness he needs.
That's BS. The 2nd half of last year he was plenty shifty and on his way to becoming a dynamic player to the point where other players in the league were touting him.

He has a role, but it is not to be a downfield threat. He's the guy you drop it off to when the 2 deep threats are blanketed.
And Robinson is flirting with it. He’s a fine player as your 4th option maybe but this offense will continue to be comically terrible if he’s going to be relied on to do anything of substance on a regular basis
Exactly. Small frame, small hands and a small target. A guy like this cannot have drops.
He's quick and gets open. However he never (rarely) beats the first tackler or breaks a tackle. He had a few plays last night that could have made a huge difference, th swing pass near the goalline and the drop on 4th and 6. Do you think Cooper Kupp would have not beaten one guy and got into the endzone on that swing pass? That play was drawn up exactly for that situation, and it was pretty much perfect.
Guys like him are a dime a dozen in the NFL
He's a solid player, ideally the 3rd or 4th best option
in an offense. A dozen plus targets and expecting him to break tackles every play and get YAC is too much to ask. He wasn't flawless last night but played a good game.
Blame the head coach for wasting 15-20 downs running into 8 man fronts and blame the QB for being unable to connect on any throws when WRs were wide open behind the defense before you blame Wandale for last night.
And Robinson is flirting with it. He’s a fine player as your 4th option maybe but this offense will continue to be comically terrible if he’s going to be relied on to do anything of substance on a regular basis
Field awareness is something some players don't have. He has to be better with it. And his size isn't an issue - his arm length is, however. It limits his catch radius. His ADOT is 4.7 yards. That makes reliance on the YAC. It forces yards after contact and if not, the drive can falter. Daboll's coaching it this way.
He got 1st downs twice on 3rd down with his YAC. 2nd half not as good.
I think he can be a very valuable NFL player in tbe right role. On the right team he's the opposing player who is picking up 3rd and 6 all the time and you're yelling at the TV - Damnit, how is he open? How did we miss that tackle? Why can't our D get off the field?
had a bad second half, it happens. He has limited room to operate since we can’t extend the field deep or run the ball. Dallas really swarmed him after half time, basically jumped on the underneath stuff since Jones couldn’t connect deep. Credit to them. Wandale is a good player.
RE: The major problem is he was taken ahead of Pickens

That headcase was throwing tantrums because he wasn't getting enough passes on a winning team. He doesn't have the mental fortitude to survive losing in NY. If the Giants drafted him they would have had to trade him for peanuts by now when he refused to play.
Wandale Robinson is much better at football than Daniel Jones
Wan'Dale Robinson is a jag, he took what was given to him last night. A few plays he made the player miss, but for the most part he ran short of the sticks and stayed short of the sticks. His drop on a contested catch was horrendous and he is not a slot receiver I would want on a team I am building for the future.
50% of his yards have been after the catch this year

The defense knows where the sticks are too, can’t just always be conveniently on or past them and expect to also be open. Especially when you have no run game and can’t connect on a deep pass.
Then Wan'dale has to win more of the battles than he did
for me to think of him as anything more than an average (jag) slot receiver. Last night, he did not win enough of those behind the sticks and getting a first down.
RE: RE: 50% of his yards have been after the catch this year
Wan'Dale but they needed him to break that tackle or at least avoid him in any way on that goal line play. Daboll drew it up expecting Dallas to double Nabers and they did, and Wan'Dale got one on one with a pass on the line and in space. That should be an easy TD.
RE: RE: RE: 50% of his yards have been after the catch this year
You know good teams have average players right? Who is Josh Allen throwing to this year?
I do know that, but let's face it we can pick up average players for cheap. This is his third year and soon a decision will have to be made on him and I have not seen anything that leads me to want to resign him to a second contract unless it is as cheap as i can get a JAG in FA
Have a habit of overrating certain players and more often than not, it feels like it's lineman on other teams (Will Hernandez for instance) or receivers. Richie James was one from a few seasons ago. He went to KC and couldn't crack their lineup or perform very much when he played with Mahomes.
Robinson's ADOT is and will be small because his arms are short. It makes most pass routes and situations limited.
he's a very small target with short arms so every throw has to be pinpoint.
Then he has inconsistent hands and he lacks awareness on the field.
I can't believe Schoen traded up into the 2nd round for this player....smh
63 of 124 yards after the catch. Robinsons YAC isn’t the problem.
Someone said it above, he's got some Barkley in him.
His awareness of where he is on the field is lacking...whether its cutting back when its unnecessary or not realizing where the sticks are.
It seems to be there are spots where its apparent just get the first down - and he's cutting and trying to do more than necessary. And this is third down I'm taking about.

Thought it was a reach at the time myself - esp for a player that size.
He's a useful player with some interesting skills, but the upside is limited by his size. He's got quicks and some speed, but it's not otherworldly by any means. That's not a second round player.
He's the kind of guy that would soak up a lot of yards on a team like KC, but as others have said Pickens would have been a better fit on profile alone. Wandale as the #2 receiver is not a good receiver corps and he overlaps a bit with Nabers.
Need to take him off the field in those scenarios.
Historically bad catch radius, and completing a pass to him beyond 5 yards of the LOS is low probability. No sense in having him out there. They should have Hyatt, Slayton, and Nabers working out of the slot on 3rd and long. Even Hodgins would be better.
I think he is being forced into a #2 receiver role, when in actuality he is a #3. He is being forced in a role higher than what he is capable of due to the struggles of Hyatt and to a lesser extent Slayton. The Giants need to improve the WR position outside of Nabers.
Put him in tge backfield on 3rd down as a recieving back. He played RB in college and his skillset is that of a Devon Achane, Darren Sproles type RB iWamda the passing game. Wandale vs a LB is a great mismatch. He doesnt do so well against DBs.

The ball should have been thrown earlier. Can’t just stop on a dime, physics took him OOB and that was that.

He is nifty at getting open on slants and flat routes under the linebackers and has a niche fit in that area.

He is an average slot receiver at best.

Let’s say for fun and games this is accurate.

Guys are small int the NFL but physically strong where they can get tough yards.
Robinson isn't getting any tough yards. Zero.
I think there's a place for him but when he's the #2 option, it's going to be average at best.
