New York Giants pass rusher Brian Burns did not generate a single pressure on 25 pass rushes against the Dallas Cowboys. It was Burns' first career game without a pressure in which he had at least 10+ rushes.
Burns matched up against Cowboys OT Terence Steele on 17/25 of his rush attempts.

Not pass rush, but he did have a nice TFL on a run play

Giants defensive snap counts vs. Cowboys:
• Really quiet game from the defensive line, including Dexter Lawrence. Haven't re-watched yet, but assuming he was doubled all game because that what every team does. Still, would have expected more disruption against a rookie center. The rest of the DL made no impact.
• Kayvon Thibodeaux had an active game with five pressures. He had the lone sack, which was the Giants' first vs. Dallas since 2021. He also drew a hold to negate a 26-yard gain and pressured Dak Prescott into an incompletion on a third down midway through the fourth quarter. Thibodeaux had a shot at the fullback on the fourth-and-1 run before CeeDee Lamb's long TD, but couldn't make the tackle.
PFF gave Brian Burns two pressures. Regardless of the number, it wasn't an impactful game. Giants weren't going to be able to blitz Prescott so they needed the front four to generate pressure. Couldn't afford a quiet game from Burns.
• Bobby Okereke's consecutive snap streak extended to 1,378. He had great two-play sequence in the fourth quarter with a TFL on a Lamb jet sweep followed by tight coverage on an incomplete pass to Lamb on a crossing route to force a field goal (aided by Thibodeaux's pressure). Otherwise, doesn't feel like Okereke is making as many splash plays this season.
• Seems a lot of people misinterpreted my tweet on Deonte Banks after Lamb's TD. There's maybe a handful of CBs in the league that can go toe-to-toe with WR1's on a weekly basis. Banks isn't in that group. He may never be, but he's not now, so they need to stop putting that assignment on him. That's why I said it's not his fault. They're not putting him in position to succeed by expecting him to travel with Jefferson, McLaurin, Cooper and Lamb and shut them down.
The Giants don't have a CB1 and that was a known problem all offseason. So they need to adjust the coverage plan, whether that's more zone, more doubling, more whatever. Just can't put him on an island and expect him to cover these guys consistently. And it's not a failure for a late first-round pick to not be a lock-down CB1 in Year 2. He's just not up to the role they're forcing on him.
The Giants went with Cor'Dale Flott outside and Nick McCloud in the slot. Both played well. It's valuable to have a guy like McCloud you can plug in at a number of spots. He wasn't targeted last night and that's with him mostly lining up on Lamb when he was in the slot. He also had a TFL in run support.
Veteran practice squad elevation Duke Shelley replaced McCloud in the slot in the dime package. Isaiah Simmons played over Dane Belton as the money backer in dime. Shelley wasn't exploited in limited snaps.
Tre Hawkins didn't play a snap despite the shortage at corner. He was a healthy scratch last week. He's deep in the doghouse.
• Tyler Nubin took bad angles on both TDs, particularly the Lamb one. Otherwise, thought the safeties did a good job getting downhill after short catches and there was nothing over the top.
• Ihmir Smith-Marsette replaced Tyrone Tracy at KR after the fumble. Smith-Marsette didn't get any KR opportunities, but had a nice 22-yard punt return.

Giants offensive snap counts vs. Cowboys:
• Outside of the 43-yard run at the end of the Browns game, Devin Singletary has 29 carries for 46 yards in the past two games. Stunning lack of production on the ground against a defense that came in allowing 185.7 yards rushing per game. The close call on the fumble was alarming.
Tyrone Tracy (four carries for two yards) and Eric Gray (one carry for one yard) weren't any better.
On the plus side, Singletary and Tracy each had solid gains on screens. Nice to see a functional screen game becoming part of the offense.
• Malik Nabers again played nearly every snap before leaving with a concussion after the fourth down drop on the sideline. 12 catches, 15 targets, 115 yards — the Giants continue to put a ton on his plate. He took some big hits last night. Would like to spare him a few of those if he's going to be fed that much.
Darius Slayton continues to be the clear WR2. He was open deep twice but Daniel Jones under-threw him. Slayton had a costly drop in the red zone on a third-and-14 that forced the Giants to settle for a field goal while trailing 17-12 in the fourth quarter. Not an easy catch, but he needs to make it.
These last two games show what to expect from Wan'Dale Robinson: High volume, limited yardage (6.5 yards per catch). Almost all of his catches come short of the sticks and it's on him to produce YAC. He's excellent at that. The first guy rarely tackles him in space. But if you're going to be a top slot WR, you need to catch that slant on third-and-6 late.
Robinson's limited catch radius showed up again when he got behind the Dallas safety, who inexplicably went for a pick, on a bomb on the first play of the final dive. Wasn't going to be an easy catch, but he really didn't have a chance.
Another game of minimal snaps for Jalin Hyatt. The Giants used a four-WR package on a few plays, but that didn't get Hyatt any more involved. His lone target was the desperation deep ball that was picked at the end. Through four games he has three targets and 0 catches.
• The Giants are getting nothing from their tight ends in the passing game. Combined five catches for 57 yards in four games. Theo Johnson still with a major edge over Daniel Bellinger in snaps.
• The starting five offensive linemen have played every snap this season. Really strong showing in pass protection last night. Run blocking another story.
1. totally agree with him on okereke, he's been invisible this year. except the one play where he got put in lingerie by a commander.
2. crazy how bad the run game and TE production fell off. if those were anywhere close to 2022 levels, this offense would be a lot more dynamic instead of a 1 man show.
sloppiness probably should have been expected with so much youth at receiver, so what we have seen is to large extent on management because this was their roster design.
the mistakes slayton keeps making are more frustrating since he's not a rookie.

@nickfalato
The #Giants left some plays on the field. They struggle to complete/maximize these deep shots from the far-hash.
This is the 2nd consecutive week where the defense almost intercepted a throwback-type play. It may be wise to shelve that.

These excuses for Burns have to stop.

Longtime fans have watched LT, Banks, Strahan, Osi, Tuck and JPP on the edge.
This guy ain’t it. Not max contract worthy. Dan Morgan knew.

I'm a long-time fan, and have watched all of those. But I also have reading comprehension. When did I compare Burns to any of them?
BFD.
Right now he looks like a huge mistake.

You are reading way too much into what I said. I acknowldged it wasn't pass rush, which is what the Giants primarily traded and paid big money for.
I apologize. I will never acknowledge a good play a player made. It apparently triggers the unhinged crowd...

He'll break out any day now.
