Former DJ Supporter

PhilD : 9/27/2024 1:51 pm
I have been a supporter of Daniel Jones. I believed that he did not have an OLine and he did not have receivers.
Well, he has an Oline that gives him plenty of time. He has receivers that can get open.
What did he do in the last game?
1. He 3 times had receivers that had beaten the DB. He under threw and forced the receiver to come back to try and catch the ball and stop an interception.
2. He made one long pass to a receiver that had no DB within 5 yards of him.
3. He throws short passes that are not accurate. Forcing the receivers into awkward positions to catch the ball. This limits YAC. It also exposes receivers to harder hits. He does not hit receivers in stride.
4. He does not make other players look better.
I am officially off the Danial Jones bandwagon.

That ball placement issue even on short throws is not talked about enough. When we get frustrated with Shepard and Robinson not getting any YAC over the years you can thank #8 for that. Never leads the receiver.
Unfortunately, he is not a franchise QB.

I pray the Giants replace Daniel Jone next year. An accurate and strong arm QB would have won last night’s game against Dallas.
You were referencing the 39-yarder to Nabers

When he broke Booth's ankles. He actually had 12.9 yards of separation on that play, IIRC, but it was definitely over 12 yards.

And this isn't being talked about enough. Nabers was as open as anyone can ever be in the NFL, and DJ threw a rainbow to him. To me, that was one of the most annoying passes of the night. Because while it resulted in a 39-yard gain, which is nice, if DJ flattens that ball and throws a dart, Nabers could score on that play, he just has to beat one guy, and I'll take Nabers in that scenario to win ten times out of ten.

And this is the story with Daniel Jones. It's not that he doesn't make some good throws and gets completions, it's that he leaves so many plays on the field because he's prioritizing the safer, often times short throw when there are bigger plays out there to be made.

What we've seen in the past few weeks is close to peak DJ play at QB, and it's just not good enough. This team needs a dynamic passer. This was the season story of him in 2022 when they made the playoffs. DJ statistically, when only looking at stuff like TD-INT ratio and completion %, the numbers look pretty decent. But those numbers are because the throws are short and safe, and the INT numbers are low. The TDs haven't been there, and that's why the Giants settle for so many field goals or drives that stall, instead of TDs.

I think a lot of fans and BBIers think this is due to Daboll's play-calling. Certainly, it's possible that the play-calling is a factor, but I think it's more DJ not making the more optimal decision on those play-calls that is what is hurting the offense. And yes, if he executed the offense like I would like him to, it will also likely result in more INTs, but I'm more than happy with that if it also results in more TDs. Josh Allen is almost certainly going to throw more INTs than DJ this year, but his offense is also going to score a lot more points. And in my mind, with the offensive construction they have this year, they have the playmakers to score a lot of points with a more dynamic passer.

This is why I want Daboll and Schoen to stay and get their choice of QB in the draft, because I don't find fault with the construction of the team or the offense, it's that you need the right guy to reach this offense's potential, and DJ just isn't that guy.

On the radio broadcast, Papa was quick to tell us Daniel tossed up a looper like that purposefully "to be sure the catch was made." SMH.

Jumped off 2 games ago.
Is there no PS QB in the league that can throw 11 yards from the LOS so we can at least get a chain mover 1st down?
Anybody?
Bueller?
If we had Josh Allen, both the Nabers pass and the Slayton

incompletion would have likely been TDs. Hell, I'd bet at least one for sure.
I hope Mara is now satisfied

The Giants have no longer done anything to screw up “this kid.” Mara has such poor judgment. Many of us saw that Jones issue wasn’t a weak line or weak weapons (although he had those) but it’s been clear since his rookie year that Jones is a game manager at best or pretty good back-up at worst.

I hope Mara is now pushing to get a legit QB on this team next season.

Mara by his decision making and Jones through his play have really ruined the Giants for me. Watching the games is much more a chore than a pleasure.

Slayton could have cartwheeled into the end zone if Allen had been throwing that one to him.

Agree 100%. All most analysts are talking about is the miss on the free play. The play you noted was just as bad if not worse.

If we had Dak and they had Jones we would win that game by 2 scores.
