Honest question from me...I think that Jones is serviceable as a lower third QB in the league or top of the heap backup. Not what we want leading our team for much longer but a decent bridge guy to whoever is next. There are cap implications next year to keeping him on the roster ($40M+ hit or something close to that if he is the guy) and somewhat less but important cap implications to letting him go. Assume we are willing to absorb the $23M plus cap hit from cutting him after this season...would we rather go with a Russell Wilson, Jacoby Brissett, Gardnew Minshew or Sam Darnold types if they cost less than $17M for a 1 yr deal or is Jones the better bridge? Obviously this assumes we draft a QB this offseason we believe can be the next guy up with some seasoning. I'm kind of torn but thinking that we should cut bait no matter what. Thoughts?
But that would hurt Daniel’s feelings!
Spoken out as a true lets move on from this guy perspective. Totally get it. I am also leaning into that. This year has a chance to be historically lousy. But what is better for next yr? Lets say by chance they get Quinn Ewers at the 4th pick of the draft (i don't want Shedeur under any scenario). Can we secure a bridge as good as Jones next yr for less than the gap between what it costs to cut him and what it costs to procure a decent enough replacement.
love and totally agree with your logic. this is not the time to play a better mediocre QB who might win 3 more games than jones and then we win the pick 9 boobie prize for another Jones. We need the best QB prospect in the draft. Yes, all QB's are a coin flip, but we have to try. We certainly can stay with jones after this year.

And we’ll be in QB hell. We’d actually start winning. Keep starting Jones he’s our only hope to deliver us the next Trevor Lawrence!

correction CANT stay with Jones.
That is the rub. What QB comes here and at what cost to take on what is obviously a seat warmer job if we spend the rd 1 pick on a new QB that I hope we do. Look...Sam Darnold did that these last few yrs and it appears he is on his way to getting a much better contract next yr from someone who believes that he has finally found it. I doubt he has but understand those who think that way. If we had any QB pipeline right now with a guy in the wings we believed could be the next guy....this would be our bridge yr. Unfortunately no one including me thinks that Devito or Lock represent a future.
Yep. Bridge means bridge. A barely passable option until we are ready to deploy a better one. Something not on this current roster
DeVito throws a better deep ball. I’d still like to see him play with Nabers and the starting line to see what he can do.

to me it just means “guy that sucks until we find someone better”. Ours just happens to be paid well vs other teams’ bridge QB.

I disagree, Jones is passable, he’d be a really good backup. What bridge QBs are out there leading their teams to the playoffs every year? And if there are any, why are they being replaced?
The next step depends on several things, including how they grade the available draft snd FA options. I expect they'll both draft a QB and sign a FA to compete/start the season. Jones will almost certainly not be here. His contract was structured to give us an out after this season.
The thing that is clear is that we can get a game manager, like DJ, for much less.
And as fans, we need to watch someone else.
Draft
Cut
Until you get one.
Remember what Schoen said to Poles, "must be nice not looking at the QBs..."
lol, you win

It's not from my lipd. I assure you the decision has been made. Of course, he could miraculously turn into Peyton Manning and change all that but we know that's not happening
There was a lot of that talk during last season, too. And I was at the front of the line dreaming of a new beginning.
But then the QB with nine lives cashed in another and he's back behind center in 2024.
So, I'm not ready to rule him out of 2025. I think it's 50/50 right now...

What're the odds that the nightmare ends prior to week 18?

No. The decision is made. He's gone

I don't know. I certainly hope that's the case
Bryce Young is the same height as Kyler Murray, without the quickness.

This is the sad reality. Our best chance for a top three quarterback is to have DJ continue starting for as long as possible. Lock or Cutlets would likely inspire this team the same way Andy Dalton did for Carolina. Our best hope of getting the next Stroud or Daniels is to let DJ keep leading this team to losses.
Unfortunately our franchise operates on more of a DNMW strategy.
Daniel, no matter what!
+1. Not because of his talent, but the inability of the front office to view him objectively.

I fookin hope so. Unbelievable it's gone this long.
Glad you're not our GM.
I don't want the next Trevor Lawrence. He's literally Daniel jones. Decent numbers but can't get in the end zone or win...

Sam Darnold. 1 year contract and 100% gone next year...
LOL couldn't "hit the ball"? Maybe we need Aaron Judge??
Jones is done after this season. They wanted him to be the bridge QB this year. Next year. He won't be here.
