Welcome to another series thread, this time a three-game set against the Brewers (91-68) in Milwaukee. The Mets (87-70) have had a bit of bad luck so far this season against the Brew Crew:
they’re winless against them in three games. The Brewers have nothing to play for this series.
They’re locked into the 3rd seed in the National League at this point. The Mets’ magic number to make the playoffs is 4. Click
HERE to read about it. If the season ended today, the Mets would be the 5th seeded club going into the N.L. playoffs & the Braves would be on the outside looking in. Click
HERE to read a preview of this series. Enjoy 😊!

Scenario 6: Braves lose, Mets wins, Diamondbacks lose
Outcome: Braves are in and play San Diego on Tuesday. Mets are in and play Milwaukee on Tuesday. Diamondbacks are out. No doubleheader Monday.
in negative news arizona has pulled ahead so now this scenario is in play:
Scenario 5: Braves lose, Mets win, Diamondbacks win
Outcome: Both games will be played Monday. The winner of Game 1 is in. If the loser of Game 1 wins Game 2, it is in as well. If a team is swept, it is out and the Diamondbacks are in.
Hopefully just 1
Definitely, he’s been terrific. We’ve also found our LH SP, Peterson balling in the biggest game of his life.
Scenario 1: Braves win, Mets win, Diamondbacks win
Outcome: Braves are in and at least one game is necessary Monday. If the Mets win the first game, they are in — and would be tied with Atlanta in record and head-to-head. The likelihood is they would not play the second game, as it would be for seeding purposes only. If the Mets lose Game 1 and win Game 2, they are in. If not, the Diamondbacks are in

After this season its that we found our manager. Mendoza really knows how to call a game.

Section, I've been hyping DP up since ASB. He's been the secret weapon, perfect against aggressive swingers. I hope we extend him next year

That’s a no-brainer, he looks like he’s figured things out.

His hip surgery was well past due. Great example how players who appear failing are really just managing pain. Its made all the difference along with Hefners coaching. Guys a stud
There’s always the possibility the Diaz is not needed tomorrow, especially just needing 1 win, and then would be available game 1.
I'd have to think whoever wins Gm 1 will sit most of their starters in Gm 2, with a playoff game the next day.
That would be bizarre...
had MLB just moved 1 of the games earlier to last monday when both teams were off and the weather report was bad it'd only be a single play in game and the wild card games wouldnt get impacted by much.
instead we'll get the weirdest double header ever. but i guess there will be some entertainment in that.
game 1 is key, and lineup will be interesting. do mets play lindor at DH? gotta think with his back he wont be playing 18 or more innings in the field in 1 game. swellenbach starting for atlanta, jdm k'd 3 times against him last week. acuna had a nice line drive off him that was robbed by harris in cf.
if the mets lose game 1, game 2 is the elimination game and it's against someone other than sale/fried/schwellenbach/morton. so there is some logic in holding alvarez for g2 and lindor at ss for g2 when you can put in a stronger DH.

The Mets will start Tylor Megill in game one tomorrow , sources say
This.
This makes too much sense for it to happens...
Padres basically threw the game today because they know it would lead to Mets/Braves having to get to SD tired and worn out
but if mets did that they'd probably give us that shitty umpire from friday for every game in the postseason.

Is that allowed? Would be worth it just to not travel
Mets can be 5 seed (2 wins) or 6 seed (1 win)
If you are the Mets, would you rather head back to Milwaukee or all the way to San Diego?
I don't even think there is much incentive got Mets to win both games, is my main point here. Other than the opportunity to knock out the Braves..but reward for that is a longer flight
There was literally zero urgency. And still even better that MLB has not pushed the WC round back to Wednesday to give tomorrow’s participants a chance to get where they need to be and actually…you know….sleep. And make not mistake, given Atlanta’s been home this whole time, this whole situation has been clearly most taxing and potentially detrimental to the Mets.

How about winner of first game, forfeits the second game? Behind the scene deal before Monday LOL
Both teams make playoffs - Arizona would be out.
I am not exactly sure a team can forfeit just because of such a reason that they simply don't want to play. Forfeits in MLB are for ex - pulling your team off the field, or not being able to field 9 players.

Exactly, it's most detrimental to the Mets. So why would the Braves agree to anything that made it easier for the Mets?
not sure why Mets fans only see this from the Mets side (actually I do know I get it, it's human nature). but weather happens. I don't know every circumstance, but has MLB ever forced teams to play games sooner than scheduled because weather may hit?

Braves wont forfeit because they have sold tickets obligations to fulfill.

That at the very least, a doubleheader wasn’t played last Tuesday.

You keep saying this and yet I’ve already explained that I know and expect that Braves would try to do this but that MLB should have intervened.
You’re looking for precedence and while I don’t know if there is any, I’m not sure this situation required it. MLB had options that were fair and reasonable for both teams (like a doubleheader Tuesday) that would have required very little lifting whatsoever and they could have avoided much of this.
It’s really not that hard to see this objectively as completely mismanaged by
megill is pitching game 1 so they can hold severino game 2 for the WC game if they win.
i think they can probably make a roster move between games, so they probably have an alternative SP ready who can eat innings if they clinch in game one. then deactivate someone who wont be on the postseason roster anyway.
Yeah Mets really have no incentive to win 2 games. Why would they want to fly to SD?
Braves have no incentive to waste 2 games of pitching.
It's a super weird situation.
