Another week to fix the schemes?

SGMen : 9/28/2024 7:19 am
Tough loss to Dallas. Tough loss to Washington. Tough loss to the Vikings where we came out FLAT and not in sync.

1-3 is the result and UNLESS Daboll and staff can look at the film and make ALL the right adjustments to maximize the talent we have AND mask our deficiencies (lack of consistent pass rush, lack of beef for run defense and run offense, lack of killer instinct, special teams) we will continue to spiral with sub .500 play.

Can the staff accomplish the miracle? Doubtful and I base this on history to date as Daboll started 5 - 2 but has been trash since with the EXCEPTION of the Vikings playoff win.

So what do we have to hope for:

1. Figure out how to run the ball effectively. That means we need to look at whether Neal can step up as he is a big beef guy and also whether Theo Johnson at TE can figure out how to block. That is asking a lot but hey I can dream.

2. Figure out how to scheme guys better so it isn't just the Nabers show. Get Tracy catching the ball and perhaps incorporate Bellinger more as he did show flashes as a rookie but is in the doghouse I think because he isn't much of a blocker to date despite adding lots of muscle.

3. Leadership: where are the leaders? Nice guys, little charisma to excellence IMHO. Maybe a rookie like Nabers can help build that as the season goes on and new culture is brought in next year....but I'm getting ahead of myself.

4. QB: Daniel Jones is a game manager with legs. He is horrible in pressure spots and I just need to glance at his record to KNOW now that he isn't the answer. And I was a Daniel Jones guy as I thought his rookie year throwing was really nice. He just has no confidence and you can "feel it" in his face and the face of the team especially on opening day.

So lets develop the young guys by scheming them correctly. How much can actually be done there during the season remains to be seen but if this rookie class hits on all cylinder as the season moves along we have a future. The 2022 draft hurts us this year as Thibs is average and so is Robinson and nothing else of merit developed.

I said 9-8 when the year started, give or take a game, but now I'm thinking 7 - 10 unless the rookies really come on and surprise along with maybe a veteran surprise like Neal obliterating people at RT or something.

Say Jones has made the high pressure throws and his receivers have now dropped them 3 times in 2 games when trying to lead the team on game winning drives.

We can talk about the deep ball issue but he is making good throws and moving well in the pocket.

Umm, no. Everything short, dink and dunk, no quality deep throws, the pop fly to Nabers, Slaton behind the defense and DJ couldn't get the ball there for the TD, there were opportunities there that DJ either missed or didn't see/try. We may win a couple of games with the checkdown Charlie approach, but this is not winning football and it shows - 1-3. Also going to get Nabers killed.

Daboll and Schoen need to think long term
cosmicj : 9/28/2024 9:07 am : link
But all the f****d up political incentives within the franchise reasonably make them nervous for their jobs.

What really needs to happen is John Mara “retires.” He’s the epicenter of the failure.

100%.

Still, it amazes me that some people can't/don't see that.

They'll be content to just keep firing head coaches..

indifferent at this point. I've been a fan for a long time, and I cannot recall a time when I was less interested than I am today.

The entire organization is broken.
If you are expecting to see a different plan of attack

In Seattle in a week, I think you will be disappointed. The passing game can be efficient on short throws, but with no ability to challenge dow the field, YAC opportunities and running lanes will be much harder to find.

Daboll is coaching for his job, so expect a lot more decisions to be conservative, take points, and stay competitive in games.
They need to put Neal at right guard
kelly : 9/28/2024 9:59 am : link
That would help the run game.

But they won't because Daboll is pig headed.

Bellinger should play over Theo 1but he wont.

Hyatt should play more but he won't

Am i the only one who thinks Daboll is pig headed?

I literally said we can talk the deep ball issue, but he literally is putting the ball in the receivers hands on potential game winning drives 2 out of 3 weeks and they are being dropped. Those are very high pressure throws.

with everything until the part about seeing a 7-10 record. Where is this team finding 6 more wins? This is at best a 4 win team. What games remaining will they be favored to win? Carolina, maybe?

You can’t win without scoring TDs (yes, I know Washington beat us with 7 FGs) in todays NFL. A field goal is largely a “win” for the defense in todays game. Everything including the new kickoff rules favor the offense and more scoring.

Also hard to win when coaching conservatively and not ever really threatening the defense. Do you ever see opposing teams coach conservatively or think twice about going for it on 4th and short against the Giants?

To get healthy. And yeah, nice to watch tomorrow's games without any anxiety or stress.
OP Wrong in 2 poits - one of them he is nuts
giantstock : 9/28/2024 11:26 am : link
Thus he still has unreasonable expectations for this team just like he he had to start the season. Nine wins was unreasonable. It's how a bias Ginats fan viwews his team.

Point 1-- - 10 wins???? He's out of his mind. A reality check is needed. Way too much homerism.

Point 2-- Why target our superstar less? No way should they do that.

So very BOOM true! We lack top-end, scare you talent. We have Lawrence on defense he is a stud but no other "scare you" silly types. No leaders?

But scheme wise, can we do things to maximize the talents of Burns, Thibs and Ojulari to help get to the QB??

Unfortunately, Neal's career has been hampered by his injuries. It is a shame he wasn't able to spend half of this year's camp at RG preparing for his future. I do believe he is our stud RG next year. Hopeful.

I love how everyone just thinks that failed OT just becomes an OG -voilà!

The Giants have one of the three youngest starting teams in the league and that is with a 34 year old starting OG on a one year deal who likely will be replaced by Neal next year as a starter. With this level of youth coupled with scheme adjustments they will win some games.

I'll stick with 7 - 10 for now as I'm a hopeful fan but year who knows....
