Hopium: The team is (finally) positioned for their QB

Jerz44 : 9/28/2024 8:16 am
Every year for the last decade I’ve hoped at the start of the season they’d compete. I’m forever an optimist.

That being said, deep down we all knew this wasn’t going to be a Super Bowl year. However, despite that, I’m still more optimistic for the future than I’ve been.

This team is well positioned to draft a rookie QB without the scenario being a dumpster fire.

Similar to the Vikings when they picked McCarthy (I think widely considered to be an ideal landing spot for a rookie QB), this team has a star WR, a really great offensive mind calling plays and running the offense, and an offensive line situation that won’t result in the QB scrambling for his life on every play.

So many rookie QBs with talent flame out because of the situation they’re out in. I don’t think the Giants will be one of those.

It’s a bummer knowing so early in the season we have to wait a full year again before we can hope for true success but at least I do feel confident that we’ve finally turned the corner and can expect some success in the relatively near future.
It's not a coincidence

Daniel Jones is playing better ball this year with a competent OLine and a stud WR.

No question another QB can come in and have more success.

What's so great about Daboll?

You mentioned he has a great offensive mind

Just curious

If you haven’t, watch the Big Blue Banter all-22 film reviews on YouTube after each game. They spend an hour going over like 6-8 plays and showing what every player on the field is doing. Watching those has really expanded my appreciation for the chess match of football, but to your question specifically, they demonstrate why Daboll is so good at what he does.
Daboll

Is great as an X and O's kind of coach, but to reach his men, get them to play above their talent level (or otherwise 2022 is a fluke) and keep them disciplined (ie penalties, missed tackles, drops both of which has very much hurt this team)... I'm not so sure about.
There is a lot more to being a good HC

Then designing plays.
Player evaluation
Coach selection
In game decision making
Player motivation

Those are a few. I don't see where Daboll stands out in those areas.

I think of Parcells, Coughlin, and Daboll is not in their league
They are going

to win enough games to screw us out of a chance to draft a QB.

Then we need to find another QB through free agency. DJ is the issue whether you believe it or not. 6 years and he is not a winner in any form or shape.
All we keep doing is trying the same shit over and over again hoping for different results. Playing team sports you know when someone has it or doesn’t. The other 52 know he doesn’t but go along with it. This is insane and it has to stop.

If this years draft produces any top talent I could see Schoen trading 3 1sts. Also, seemingly half the league drafted a Qb last year so there probably won’t be the same competition for QBs as was present last draft.
great offensive mind?

ummmmmm.......some of the calls have been absolutely headscatching.

I get the QB has some limitations. Adapt your playcalling. Use some imagination in the redzone.
Did we attempt to throw one ball into end zone vs Dallas?

I don’t recall. You have a running QB and one elite receiver plus a gadget guy like Robinson. Daboll has not convinced me that he is a long term solution at HC position. I hope he opens up the playbook. Give players a chance to develop. I am not interested in our record this year. Jones will be gone.
I was hoping this would be about Hoppyum IPA

Great IPA from Foothills Brewing in nearby Winston-Salem. I have some of that.

Running short on hope for the Giants at the moment.
Regarding Dabs as an Offensive genius

The thing I’m not seeing is a good understanding of the flow of the game. Running the ball on second and long inside the Cowboys 10 yard line when we’re averaging 1.9 YPC? I’m also not seeing much success scheming our receivers open. Where are the routes that clear open the middle of the field? Nabers made a living in college with the hitch and go route and we haven’t utilized that route. I am happy to see the success we’re having with the Screen Pass but why aren’t we doing it more to ope up the running game.
Agree with put the hopium down.

I think we are more likely to see DJ as the 2025 starter than a new high profile QB prospect. And I say that as a non-DJ believer.
