They didn’t draft McCarthy to sit him on the bench, and I think Darnold will be looking for an opportunity to be a longer term starter than one more year in Minnesota.
The only way the Giants make sense is if they can’t draft a rookie high, but Darnold will have to make a decision on where he is going before that is known. I don’t think he is an option for the Giants.
I remember being mocked for comp of Jones to Darnold
Sam Darnold opened in Carolina 3-1 with 1200
Pass yards and 10 total TDs with just 3 ints
Its a long year, lets see where this goes
Plus McCarthy is out for an entire season and will need to return from the knee injury for basically his rookie season. He can sit for an entire season if not more if necessary
I always felt like the Jets might have ruined him but didn't see enough of him at the time to be confident that was the case. The way he's playing now seems more like what I had suspected.
If we can get our QB without draft picks, I think we could get good quickly. A CB, DT, IOL in some order with our first three pick could go a long way.
long way to go but if he keeps playing this well probably
reject to have that guy perform well for us. It seems Darnold has come into his own and his experience and skill is now taking shape. Might be worth a gamble. He’s going to be better than any drafted QB in 2025.
Signed for 1 year 10 million with the Vikings. The Giants could of done that with over paying Lock 5 million. But I’m pretty sure Darnold would of pick a Minnesota with better weapons than coming here.

You're probably just mocked because you post your opinions as definitive facts. You even named yourself, in part, truth. That's pretty pompous and obnoxious. It's like all those construction or plumbing companies or whatever naming themselves "patriot plumbing" or "freedom finance". That works on some people I'd suppose but otherwise you typically should be wary of people or companies going out of their way to declare they are patriots or whatever. In the same way, hard truth is a bit too on the nose. It's possible your every prediction or opinion isn't a truth right? Get over yourself
I was livid in 2018 when the Giants took Barkley over Darnold especially after seeing the Giants gift wrap him to the Jets. Darnold looked very good during his rookie season with a weak supporting cast. The Jets being the Jets failed to give him a good OL or weapons and basically ruined him. He bounced around to Carolina and SF and now he looks like the QB he was supposed to become.
If the Giants do not have a top 3-5 pick or don't love any of the QB's in the draft then I hope that they sign Darnold assuming he hits the FA market and he keeps playing this well.
Sam's and Baker's current situations are probably way better than their previous ones. It's possible that DJ would also do better in a better situation.
I think that Daboll has a lot to do with DJ's struggles. Imagine what a confidence killer, having your boss bearing down on you, saying "you better not screw up / throw an interception".
He knows JJM is the future, and he is likely looking at this as a 1 season tryout for the other 31 teams. My bet is he'd like to go sign somewhere as the starter.
As great as Darnold has been, it's just too early to consider this. If I were in charge, I would need to see his full year of work first...

Baker rebounded in Los Angeles and gambled on himself and earned a nice pay day in Tampa Bay.
Curious to see what transpires but giving an outright big contract is risky. And it might allow Minnesota to deal McCarthy, possibly.
This is an excellent point.
And why Jones should absolutely be back in 2025.

That is how we got here.
Darnold has started 4 fewer games than Daniel Jones in his career, not counting playoffs...which would make it 6 more starts for Jones over Darnold.
Mayfield was always pretty good, not great, but good. Cleveland got a bit greedy.
Darnold was always pretty bad, give or take a few games.
