Dude is clearly absolutely in love with himself.
I get that he had an esteemed career but you never hear other color commentators shamelessly masturbate on air the way he seems to.
Can remember him saying something like: "well, y'know - for me - anything less than winning a Superbowl was considered a failure for me..." without a hint of humor or self deprecation in his voice. Really cringe.
"It's just how a winner mentality in the NFL works."
His commentary is pretty pale too - and his colleagues bowing down to him is kinda nauseating to me.
But that's just me I guess. Maybe it'll just take some time for him to adjust to his new role.
Oh well - at least he kicks the shit out of Greg Olsen. Who needs to have the shit kicked out of him.
Not gonna lie he kinda sucks at this. Which really surprises me actually. He's certainly not terrible, but he's not that good either.

Yep.
He showed more personality and revealed that his personality sucks.
I guess you pay for everything you take in life in one currency or another - being the GOAT has its toll. I wouldn't want to hang out with someone like him.
And then it just kinda hung in the air without mentioning the two brothers who were quite conspicuous by their omission.

p.s.--On a barely related not, what are the odds on having a bio like Cooper Manning's? His father is Archie Manning (second overall pick in the draft), his two brothers are Peyton and Eli (first overall picks in the draft), and his son is Arch Manning (likely first or second overall pick in future draft). Not that it ultimately mattered (because his spinal stenosis diagnosis at age 18 meant he would never play again), but I wonder if he ever asked himself "why the hell did I choose to play WR over QB in high school?").
p.p.s.--In researching the details for the above "p.s." I came across a letter that Cooper wrote to younger brother Peyton after making the decision to give up football...
Quote:
where Kevin Burkhardt talked about Zyon McCollum and Tristin McCollum were twin brothers playing on opposing teams in that game, and it led to brief digression with Brady about other notable pairs of brothers who played in the NFL. Chris and Kyle Long, Ronde and Tiki, Stefon Diggs and Trevon.

Probably because their story is so ingrained and done to death that we forget about it when talk of the less well-known and more obscure examples comes up.

I would like to live my dream of playing football through you. Although I cannot play anymore, I know I can still get the same feeling out of watching my little brother do what he does best. I know now that we are good for each other, because I need you to be serious and look at things from a different perspective. I am good for you, as well, to take things light. I love you, Peyt, and only great things lay ahead for you. Thanks for everything on and off the field.
I watched a biography on the Manning family ... it said Cooper was the most gifted athlete of all the brothers but, (as you mentioned) his career was over with his spinal problems.

I was going to say the Watts or the Gronkowskis.

Or Shannon & Sterling Sharpe
These "color commentators" are supposed to provide insight into strategy and tactics with positions and coaching. Instead, they spend their time bloviating over baloney, jerking off the stars and former teammates and praising the League for the increasingly sloppy product on the field. They could get rid of them and no one would miss them.
I barely notice these guys are even talking, but some of you hang on every word like you're going to be tested on what they say. It's almost as if you're watching to critique them like it's your job.
who cares? people on here hate Brady, Romo, for years you all hated Aikman and Buck (maybe still do), you all hate Collinswowrth, and Moose Johnston and Mike Tirico, it's probably easier to list the announcers who don't bother you than the one who do.
who gives a shit? If your football watching experience is that important this matters this much to you, maybe take a step back and get some life perspective.
or don't and just carry on.....whining.

Well put. You'll also notice most people who complain about the announcers usually didn't like the player, or feel they are somehow biased against their team (they aren't).
I like the story Collinsworth told about being asked in every city by fans why he hates their team. He had gotten tired of explaining that he didn't, and instead just started saying "I don't know, I just do."
Not gonna lie he kinda sucks at this. Which really surprises me actually. He's certainly not terrible, but he's not that good either.
I’m not surprised. He really doesn’t have much of a personality, Greg Olsen was much better. He should stick to X’s and O’s, the guy understands NFL offenses and defense better than any of use. Just tell us what the QB is looking at, and how he would attack certain defenses and alignments.

There’s a difference between thinking Brady isn’t good at his new job and complaining about it. Maybe this post was only directed at certain posters, but speaking for myself only, I think he sucks. But like every other shitty announcer, it doesn’t dictate me tuning in or shutting it off so it technically doesn’t matter. And that’s what I think the point is anyway - why spend all the money on Brady when it doesn’t move the needle for most? My only guess is that advertisers are paying more during his games.
Before the first game Strahan and the boys were joking around with him pregame and he seemed really uncomfortable. Not sure what the deal is.
It wasn't just Brady. The entire team, organization and fans, every year, felt it was a failure if they didn't win the Super Bowl. Today, the Chiefs likely feel the same way.
The best of the best are going to be self-focused on themselves and to their teammates, to the exclusion of just about everything else.
Giants fans simply cannot relate to that concept. They can relate to a single road playoff win in more than a decade, against the worst secondary in the NFL in the past 30 years. Their bar is set so low, that some of their fans call such a single win a playoff run.
I suggest opening up a can of Jason Kelce Legend Edition Campbell's Chunky chicken noodle soup, and mellowing out. That soup is sold in the NYC area, right?

100%.
We are out of touch as a fanbase.
Gone are the days of greatness.

Nah, I wouldn't say that's accurate.
For some people, colour commentators are part of the enjoyment of the game.
I actually LOVE Collinsworth, Aikman and I have no problem with Romo - even though Romo's grainy voice puts me off; like he chugged a bucket of gravel before the game.
Collinsworth is fun and has always been a loveable, self-deprecating goof.
Brady is weird as shit. I haven't seen that shitty ad but his cameos in movies and stuff are also really cringe.
I only really like FOX's Game of the Week Team now for Erin Andrews. She's been a standout for a long time as far as sideline reporting goes but it's funny to see her flub repeatedly almost every game since she had that kid.
