but his handling of the position outside of that has been...not ideal.
It has been beyond horrible. I don’t know if he could do worse if he was trying to be this bad. I really hope he’s shown the door after this season.
I won't go that far, and the idea of hiring a GM with the coach in place doesn't excite me. I'm not ready to kill Schoen because we have no way of knowing to what extent ownership has been involved in the miscues. I'd be willing to bet he wasn't allowed to trade Barkley, and regardless of how he felt about Jones, I'd also bet that any plan for the '23 season that didn't include both Jones and Barkley was met with a ton of resistance. Essentially yes, I think he's been hamstrung.
The front office should be doing due diligence on lots of guys who are out on the street and unemployed. That doesn't mean the FO is desperate. It means they're professional. Those guys are going to be scrubs — otherwise, they wouldn't be on the street and unemployed.
I actually liked him as a backup over the years. He came in for Jimmy G in 2017 and just tore us up like he was Joe Montana. Good times
No, Brian Hoyer started the first 6 games and was so bad, they benched him fo Beathard. They traded for Jimmy G the week leading up to the Giants game, and he started 2 weeks later. I was at that game in SF, we got bootstomped by a winless team.
Like Tannehill if that is what they want. Or trade for a backup.
It's bizarre to me that he hasn't signed somewhere yet, particularly Miami, with what they are currently rolling out there at the QB position and with the offensive talent needing someone solid to get them the ball.
For other BETTER backup QB's this offseason. Most came cheap as well. This was certainly a red mark for Schoen.
I think it's a combination of things: 1) how much $ they were willing to shell out, 2) whether there was a legit opportunity to play if Jones falters, & 3) sensitivity to Jones. You might think I'm joking on that last point, but this administration seems to go out of their way to make sure he's comfortable. Like, Schoen having to have a convo with him because-God forbid-Daniel might run into Jayden Daniels or Maye in the lunch room? Like, WTF? The kid needs that much coddling? He's a grown ass man in a competitive field.
What is more funny is that you triggered outrage from the most vocal 'geniuses' just by mentioning that "the outrage"
Next level stuff Uber.
Outrage wasnt the right word, I agree. But the responses were still funny. Teams work out players all the time. This is a nothing footnote. It shouldn’t begin to elicit the sort of responses.
Great point. People making jokes is something that shouldn’t be happening with this kind of news. This should have been met with somber reflection, or no acknowledgements at all.
We’ll all try harder next time to live up to your expectations.

There’s of serious reactions to this nothing news, don’t kid yourself.
slumming it

It does almost feel like he is punking the entire fan base now.
"You want to bench Jones and bring in someone else? Here you go!!!"
I checked a picture and he doesn't look cock-eyed. Will wait for Red Right Hand to confirm.

I don't really see outrage. I don't think many of us have any outrage left. We're in Comedic Apathy territory.
Who posted outrage?
I think some may need to turn their sensitivity meter down. Some look to be working overtime.
Can’t make Daniel uncomfortable.
Nothing to get worked up about. Getting a serious backup in the past off-season is another topic

Fuckin' A. Can we read into that, that Nabers' concussion might be more serious?

DeVito isn't available?

Maybe they should have had Jones throwing deep passes to the try out wide receivers. We all know he needs the practice.

Darius Slayton is mentioned saying he's spoken to Leek and that "he'll be alright".

Seriously.
From the reactions above, you'd think they'd offered him a guaranteed contract.

Good question.
