Refreshing to see a coach own up to mistakes (Joe Brady)

eric2425ny : 9/30/2024 10:48 pm
"I don't think we had a bad plan. I think the game was called bad," Brady said. "I have issues saying that, but I'm full of accountability, like I want our guys to know, like, I'm in this with them and I got to do a better job and hold it to a standard."

This was following the Buffalo loss to the Ravens last night that included the disastrous trick play gaffe that changed the momentum of the game and got Josh Allen dinged up.

It’s nice to see a coach take ownership of their failures. I am still surprised Daboll didn’t take accountability for kicker gate in week 2.
The usual coachspeak

Is “I have to coach better, we have to play better, we’re all accountable ….”.

I prefer Jim Mora’s “I’m in favor of it” when asked about his team’s execution, but that’s just me. It’s all entertainment, I enjoy a good Dennis Green podium meltdown.

Daboll’s not going to say anything interesting one way or the other - he’s on the hot seat and he knows it.
Ah, who gives a

Did he have a choice?

That was arguably the worst play call I have ever seen. Buffalo comes out at halftime and starts to dominate Baltimore. I think they scored a TD and then shut them down when they were on defense. Buffalo is moving the ball and then they run that stupid ass trick play. What was the goal? For those that don't know. They went to like a wildcat formation. Allen was split out wide to the left. The running back ran to his left and pitched it to Allen running to his right and back towards the pursuit. Why? That one play killed any momentum Buffalo had.

That was John McKay (first head coach of the Bucs) not Mora who said that about his team's execution.

Joe Brady isn’t old enough to give a Mike Gundy rant.
Brady is the OC

right?

Did McDermott (the HC) make a statement of contrition?

The reverse pass with Allen

Ended the game. They had all the momentum. Moving the ball.

Just a really really bad call at the time.

Plus the ball was spotted on the left hash so there was limited room for all that nonsense.
You can take public accountability much easier

when you are secure in your job, which I think Brady is. Daboll has to be feeling the pressure for results. If this team was coming off a playoff run last year and as 1-0 when they lost to the Commanders, you may have very well heard some accountability for the kicking situation (assuming it was not also a Schoen decision).

But when you are trying to save your job, it is much better to go the route of "I saw a lot of great things out there, but it just didn't break our way today."
