Ok guys Im in a vampire fantasy league. Basically one team doesnt get to draft and has to build their team off of the waiver wire(they are the only team that can use waivers). If the vampire wins they can take anybody from the losers roster and swap them for somebody on there starting lineup in the same position. So I won this week and have to decide who to take.
My starters. Loosers Starter
Baker. Mahomes
JSN. DK
J.Williams. M.Harrison Jr
J.Mason. B.Hall
Z. Moss. D.Montgomery
C.Kmet. D.Goedert
JK Dobbins. A. Cooper
C. Santos Zuerlein
Mia. Baltimore
The obvious choice is Mahomes but Bakers has been solid so far this season. Any thoughts?
17th in PPG in standard scoring. This is coming off a 2023 season in which he was 11th in the league.
Mahomes is obviously awesome in real life, but he's no longer an elite starter in terms of fantasy. No rushing upside + his passing upside is now limited as KC has more limited weapons + a better defense than earlier in his career.
All of this - combined with the Rice injury - and I'd avoid him.

Breece is the right guy. He is coming off a rough game, but he was 6th in PPG before last week. He hasn't justified his draft slot yet, but his upside is still a top 5 RB IMO. RB is also a more valuable position than QB in fantasy IMO.
I think either Moss or Dobbins is fine. Moss has been okay and plays on a great offense, but may lose time to Chase Brown (as we saw this past week). Dobbins has the backfield under full control, but the Chargers don't have quite as dynamic of an offense. I don't think you can go wrong.

JSN for MHJ (if I'm understanding the rules correctly) is also fine IMO. I'd lean Breece given the position, but this is fine too.
Agree. Vampire league sounds wild.
For OP. Why do you think Mahomes is the move? He's very mediocre for fantasy the last 2 years
A starter seems pretty limiting in and of itself, but not only that, you have to give up a player from the same position you're taking that you started.
That's pretty screwy imo for not having a single draft pick.
I'd take Harrison.

In a 10-team league there will still be plenty of viable candidates from which to put together a roster following the draft. And if it's a league where six out of the ten or twelve teams make the playoffs, it will allow for enough time for the vampire team to build a record worthy of a playoff spot and by then they should have put together quite a formidable roster.
Conversely a 12-team league leaves slim pickings following the draft and a 10-team league in which only four teams make the playoffs may leave the vampire team on the outside looking in come playoff time despite having put together one of the strongest rosters in the league.
