NFT: Mets Minor Leagues (October)

DanMetroMan : 10/1/2024 3:32 pm
-AFL begins on Monday, Mets players will begin play on Tuesday.

-BA names Ryan Lambert as one of 10 standout 2024 debuts

Quote:
Ryan Lambert, RHP, Mets

Age: 21
Highest Level: High-A

Lambert was a power-armed reliever in the draft who posted a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings with Oklahoma last spring. The Mets signed him for $172,500 in the eighth round and then had him pitch three innings across two outings with High-A Brooklyn. In that stint he struck out four, walked one and allowed a pair of singles and no runs.

Lambert’s velocity is some of the most impressive of any 2024 draftee. He’s been up to 102 mph and in his pro debut he averaged 97.7 mph and peaked at 100.3—both tops among all draftees who debuted this summer. It’s an extremely small sample, but Lambert also did a nice job pounding the zone with his fastball and upper-80s slider. He generated a swinging strike rate north of 20% with both pitches and has a high-spin arsenal overall.

This thread figures to be less active than some of the past months because well... they aren't playing games.

5 Mets minor league pitchers touched 100 MPH in 2024. Brandon Sproat, Yacksel Rios, Ryan Lambert, Wilson Lopez and Wellington Aracena (who did it at only 19 years old)
Dan which of those guys are you absolutely

Protecting. I had forgotten about lavender but the 60day IL to means he is a must add, you will need in season flexibility regardless.

I suspect they still add Hamel/Vasil despite their horrid seasons. Trey McLoughlin would be a strong maybe, and I would hope they would add Suarez, otherwise he's likely a goner. Losing Lavender would hurt, assuming he comes back 100% he could be a real weapon from the left side. Doesn't throw hard but hitters have trouble picking up the ball.
Dan - Can teams pull back a guy in the Rule 5 Draft if someone gets

picked by another club? I'm really afraid of losing Lavender, Vasil, and Hamel.

Nothing stops teams from losing multiple players. Once the 40 man is locked (pre draft) it's locked.
Vasil and hamel are the two question marks for me

Suarez I probably would have added last year so is still a definite for me.
