They’ll win 7 games and Jones will throw 20 TDs and that’ll be good enough for the people calling the shots.
Right now, Jones is the prohibitive favorite to start in 2025.
I'm tired of watching Jones play QB, but today was an interesting game and performance for him because he did it without his security blanket Nabers. This may be a blessing in disguise where Jones should now start scanning the field for more options than just #1.
I am not sure Jones was scanning the field more versus we had a more explosive running game that kept our opponent honest and there was a lot more scheming to get guys open than Daboll had done previously. Someone like Nabers can get open without scheming so it is easy just to rely on that.
Again, for the absolute morons that are posting tonight:
The Giants are 2-3 and have 12 games remaining. They competed extremely well against Washington and Dallas, and you can argue they should have 1 won of those games minimum.
The season is still very young with 2 winnable games at home coming up.
Talk of “tanking” after we are just getting the season going and the QB that everyone wants gone having three 100+ QB rating games thus far can get the fuck outta here and go root for another team.
This is so fucking stupid I can’t take it.
Where was this guy at 1-3?
Not so forceful in grand pronouncements.
To be near enough to the top of the draft to grab a potential franchise QB.
I can’t root for a “tank job” as I can’t watch the Giants and hope they lose. But in retrospect, after each loss, I don’t feel as bad as I would if we were contending for a title. Which we are not.
Jones is a workmanlike, QB manager but in watching Daniels yesterday, and Williams, I want a QB like that.

You may be right in that I used the wrong word in scanning. I didn't want to give the impression Jones was suddenly going through progressions like Joe Montana.
However, by not having Nabers, Jones obviously had to rely on others to make plays. And they did. So, perhaps the passing game can become less Nabers centric and evolve to use all of these assets.
They're not going to. And I don't agree with what Eric said above about priority #1. I don't think they'll see it that way.
Everyone should bookmark this when fans say there’s giants fan openly rooting for the team to lose and play bad.
But then again - they’re more trolls than fans.
You've lost whatever argument you are in when you start calling posters "not real fans."
A guy who openly roots for a team is not a fan. Sorry. You may think the team stinks, the players stink, or whatever. But rooting for a team to lose is not a fan. Sorry. It’s not a losing argument. More like actual evidence.
I've said it before, call me crazy, but I'm still rooting for Schoen and Daboll to prove their the right man for the job, and all the young cornerstone players they've invested in to turn the corner.
The Giants have a new DC and a QB coming off an ACL. It wasn't going to be a fast start even though we really needed one in the court of public opinion.
Keep sawing wood. If the Giants win the Super Bowl due to having dominant trench play and a game manager QB, I'll happily take it.
They're not going to. And I don't agree with what Eric said above about priority #1. I don't think they'll see it that way.
Please just go away. Who care's if you are correct sometimes when you are an absolute ass in the way you handle yourself and make every thread about you.
But all I know is I was cheering my ass off yesterday when that final blocked FG/TD was being run back.
so I guess, logic aside, I am still rotting for wins.
In the case of professional football, only one team wins the Super Bowl per year. The other 31 teams do not. To win the SB takes the stars to perfectly align. So in any given year your team will probably not win it all. So why not enjoy the wins as they come? It sure felt good to me yesterday watching my team play a competitive game even though I know that they will be one of the 31 teams that won't win the SB.
make a stupid decision again and keep Jones. He had a decent game in the first half yesterday, but they still almost ended up in OT.
I'm pretty sure anyone who thinks Jones is the long term answer at QB doesn't watch any other NFL games. If the Giants had a top tier QB they'd probably be 4-1 right now.
I don't want the Giants to lose to get a new QB. I want them to lose to so they'll make changes at GM and head coach.
Make a change at GM because all of the ‘24 picks are contributing too much for your liking?
Make a change at HC because we finally have a coach that players want to player for?

Like they did in Cleveland, the Giants played that fourth quarter like they were trying to give the game back.
Go read the game thread. People were ready to make Daboll buy his own ticket home late in the fourth quarter. And now we're supposed to take this game like we're on the right track? Talk about some violent mood swings.
I'm not interested in this GM and head coach being here in 2025. There are better options out there.

that too many important decisions in the offseason (and maybe some decisions during it) will be based on a lot of ambiguity, or as stated in another thread, enigmas. We do need to keep in mind that some key members of the Giants are still inexperienced, improvement is still their goal, and if the goal is achieved the outcome should be consistent performance. But it will usually be difficult to determine if good performances are the result of improvement, or if they're aberrations that don't reflect a raised floor that improvement permanently brings.
It's not likely that Daboll, Schoen, and various players (Jones, KT, etc) are suddenly going to become clearly and consistently elite in such a way as to make the decision a no-brainer. So evaluations are going to need to be made that are more elusive, more of a gamble. That sort of educated risk and calculation is normal, but I worry the Giants will grant positives way too much weight and actively look for ways to dismiss the poor performances as circumstantial.
Like they did in Cleveland, the Giants played that fourth quarter like they were trying to give the game back.

You don't like the ownership, front office or coaching staff
but I still want a new QB so we can rise to contender level.
Many posters here seem to struggle mightily with the concept of two things can be and are true at the same time.
+1. The way the Giants play, if we are ahead the other team comes back and has a chance to win and if we are behind, we come back and have a chance to win. Our margin for error seems slight, many things have to go well.
On another thread someone posted that we'd be 4-1 with a few breaks. True, but if some breaks went the other way, we could also be 0-5.
The season is 5 games old and this team is ascending
and showing real promise. The first thing I loved about yesterday was that they dominated the LOS, doing that is THE recipe for success in the NFL. The second thing I loved was going out to maybe the toughest place to play in the NFL and playing with a ton of heart. It seems like this team truly doesn't listen to the outside noise. The fanbase and the pundits had them dead and what did they do, walked right down the field, had an all too Giants like disaster and then shook it off and pretty much kicked Seattle's ass.
Teams start to figure out their identity in October so no I don't want a tank job. I think this can be a fun season, the kids look impactful, the OL can pass block with the best of them and the D looks like it's getting used to Bowen's scheme and the talent on that side of the ball is showing itself. If there is a QB they really like and they can get him(easier said than done) I am sure they will, but to hope that they shit the bed to get some guy that some teams think "could" be like Stroud doesn't do it for me.
I'd love to see them win the division, the style of play they are starting to show plays well in the cold weather and who knows maybe they make some real noise. I want to win another SB but I'm not going to be crushed if they win a playoff game or two and we end the year saying this is a good team with a bunch of young talent. I want the arrow pointing up not another rebuild that guarantees absolutely nothing but a lot of losses and this place being insufferable
into the season, which would have been enough to get a new QB. Now it looks like they'll win 6-7 games, which still isn't good but also likely takes them out of the range for a QB in the draft.
I'm not upset that they've exceeded my expectations, but I also don't think there's anything to be overjoyed about. Being a middle of the pack non-playoff team is a shitty place to to be for a team, particularly when ownership is looking for an excuse to run it back again.
does not make a franchise QB. Sam Darnold has had a better year than DJ. Fans are getting blinded by one good game. In fact it seems like the one pass to Slayton for the TD was case-closed for many.

I’m curious, who are the better options at GM/ HC? I’m not disputing one way or the other, just interested in the names that you are focused on. To be clear, I continue to hope Schoen and Daboll will be successful, but am skeptical they will maximize the potential until there is a change at QB.

There are many posters who have argued for years that Jones is a really good QB. They don't say anything when Jones struggles, and then come flying out of the woodwork when he plays well, firing indiscriminately at everyone who challenged them. They care less about the team then they do vindicating themselves.

I think both Vrabel and Belichick (despite the age) are significant upgrades over Daboll. I think Daboll is brutal on roster management, has issues with his staff, and two years in a row had his team enter the season unprepared. And I know I'm not alone there because of I read the game thread yesterday everyone was ready to fire the guy around 7PM EST.
As for GM, I would lean heavily on whomever Vrabel/Belichick wanted at the position. Vrabel apparently wanted Ryan Cowden to be his GM in Tennessee, right? Well Cowden is now in the Giants' building as executive advisor to Schoen.
To answer your question specifically, my preference for GM/head coach is Cowden/Vrabel.
I don't think anyone is rooting for a deliberate tank job. But getting a QB is priority #1. See Jayden Daniels.
After today, I would guess Jones has received a stay of execution from 1925 Giants Way.
And he's back to being 50/50 as the 2025 starter.
I think TODAY, he is better than 50/50. That will shift throughout the season, I suspect, with Mara's sway being the key.
I am torn. I want a new QB no matter what. But, I NEVER root for a tank job whether deliberate or not. I want the Giants to win. Period. However, them winning is likely to continue that stay of execution, as 2022 did, even if the actual play doesn't warrant it.
I will amend 1 thing. At the start of the season, and really for the last few seasons, my take was Jones needs to be EXCEPTIONALLY good to continue beyond this year as our QB. If he can play week and and week out last yesterday AND the team plays similarly, with a winning record, then I can see moving forward as is. I just don't trust we can get the better part of 12 more games like this. I hope I'm wrong.
every game, and I'm rooting for them to do so. Should the time come that it's clear that post season play is not in the cards, I still want them to play to win, but I'm less inclined to root for that win.
Under no circumstances would I be OK with or advocate for any player, coach, or other personnel to suggest an active tank.

That’s an odd comparison since Milroe is a much better runner.
I do believe Milroe is QB1 right now

The problem isn't that posters struggle with that concept, it's that ownership struggles with it.
Connor Hughes laid out the low standards with John and Eric - 6 or 7 wins should be enough for Schoen and Daboll both. Oof.

They don't say anything when Jones struggles, and then come flying out of the woodwork when he plays well, firing indiscriminately at everyone who challenged them. They care less about the team then they do vindicating themselves.

We know.
Please start applying your football acumen about the rest of the team rather than QB, HC/GM.
The rest of the team doesn't really matter.

Under no circumstances would I be OK with or advocate for any player, coach, or other personnel to suggest an active tank.
