Welcome to this best-of-seven National League Championship Series thread between the 6th seeded Mets (89-73) & the 1st seeded N.L. West Champion Dodgers (98-64).
All games for this series will be covered in this thread. The Dodgers had the best record in all of MLB during the regular season & beat the Mets during the regular season 4 times,
winning the regular season series 4 games to 2. The Mets will be looking for some payback against the Dodgers the same way they did against the Brewers & Phillies, who they also lost their regular season series against. Click

HERE to see the Mets’ 26-man roster for the NLCS. There is one change overall: IF/OF Jeff McNeil for Reliever Adam Ottavino. This will be the 3rd time the Mets and Dodgers have met in the playoffs. They met before in 1988, 2006, and 2015 with the Mets winning in 2006 and 2015. Their most painful playoff series loss ever though was arguably to the Dodgers in 1988. Click

Loved this team. Everyone had a moment.
Will cherish this run forever.
Thank you Mets.
My sentiments exactly. Still alive, but would be shcoked for them to take 3 straight. Dodgers are clearly the better team out there, having crushed them in 3 games. A tough matchup.
Noone expected to be this far, so hard to be mad at them if they don't get further.
Been a fun few weeks and this team did a great job for what they are. Definitely some exciting times and good memories.

I had felt that our pitching (especially the starters) overachieved and was due for a letdown at some point. Of course, I felt this in August and they've been great down the stretch and in the playoffs until now, so I was wrong and the work done by them and Hefner is admirable.
It's not like they are throwing meatballs and getting completely shelled here vs LAD. LAD just never swings at anything outside of the zone. These are mostly competitive pitches that are close to the zone. It's uncanny. Someone like Quintana needs to be perfect and hit corners all night to get through this LAD lineup. His stuff looked no worse than vs MIL and PHI who are no cakewalk.
I think Peterson has the velocity to go after these LAD hitters hopefully. Get to Flaherty early hopefully.
Lots of awesome moments the last 19 days and we have the right owner and team President to make sure this is only the beginning.
Wonder if Nimmo gets the DH spot and Winker gets a start? He is making good contact with limited opportunities.
Key player outside of Lindor for me is Marte, when he is on, we win.
Last I don't think Alonso gets the extension unless he does something tonight to give us at least a chance.
No matter what, it's been a helluva fun season, really enjoyed the ride. Can't get too upset for a team with limited/streaky talent that played their hearts out there for us.
We just ran into the best team, with the most talent who unfortunately just got hot. That's a hard combo to go up against.
LFGM!
I'm not worried. Starts tonight.

We can't shut them down and we can't keep up with them. It's baseball so there's always a chance to get some breaks, but this is looking like a lopsided series.

Yep that is the crux of it. It's immensely frustrating as a fan to see our pitchers nibbling outside the zone and ultimately issuing a bunch of walks. But that's what happens when you go up against elite plate discipline and plenty of power. It's just hard. Our pitchers don't have the stuff to go straight after their hitters.
And our bats are not good enough to keep pace.
Game 3 was the frustrating one to me. Sloppy inning to gift LA the early lead and then we left a lot of runners on base and hit some balls hard right at their fielders. Beuhler was gettable but it just didn't happen.
I'm not worried. Starts tonight.
Exactly! What's with everyone waving the white flag already? gosh, I certainly wouldn't want to play any sports with you guys!

This would be epic. And you're not wrong. Just think of everything that gets put back into motion tonight if we win, specifically a matchup of Manaea vs Dodger bullpen on Sunday. With each win, the pressure would start creeping up on LA.
I had forgotten Lindor was on the wrong side of this with Cleveland in the WS against the Cubs.

Imagine Mets fans not being raging optimists...
But I'm not going to sad about it or criticize it if they don't. Hell of a year. Super grateful to have had awesome experiences the last few weeks.
Love this team and thankful for ALL the players on it. Not going to get mad at anyone for slumps or tough luck. This is baseball..the playoffs are a crapshoot.
It's not an easy decision. Nimmo still looks good at the plate. He's working long ABs and hitting the ball hard. If you DH Nimmo then you're options are to either (1) player Winker in the OF instead (who is likely as bad or worse than a hobbled Nimmo in the OF), or (2) play Taylor/Bader, which adds another light bat to a bottom of the order that can't afford another one with Alvarez close to an automatic out.
Maybe McNeil out there and Nimmo at DH is a better option, but I'm ok with sacrificing the defense to get Winker in the lineup.

Notes:
-Today’s game will be televised on FS1 and so will Game 6, if necessary, after tomorrow.
-The weather forecast for today's game at Citi Field is very good and warmer due to the earlier start time. Wind gusts will reach approximately 24 MPH around the middle to late innings. Click HERE to keep updated & see the Hourly AccuWeather Reports from there.
- It’s win or go home mode for the Mets. Matt Harvey is throwing out the first pitch to Yoenis Céspedes for Game 5 at Citi field today (today also happens to be Céspedes’s 39th birthday). The Dodgers have outscored the Mets 30-9 so far during the NLCS. That 21-run differential is the greatest of any series in the history of MLB. The first pitchers most likely to go today out of the bullpen after Peterson based on availability are Senga, Garrett, Stanek, and Diaz. If the Mets win today’s game, tomorrow’s an off-day for their pitching staff to recover while traveling to Los Angeles for Game 6 in which Manaea’s scheduled to start. There’s still hope, but the Mets need to avoid getting behind early again, especially with Flaherty, the starter from Game 1, out on the mound again and Ohtani leading off.

+1
I'd put Winker in LF and have Nimmo DH.
DP is my guy my guy, maybe someone can trick him into thinking Sept 3rd again.

That boy's got some dawg in him. The rest is up to the rest of the team. He has pitched very well so far this postseason and I fully expect it to continue today.

I've always liked DP. The hip surgery has done wonders for him. I like how he isn't happy to come out of games. As a former catcher, those pitchers were my favorites to play with. Competitive and ready to rumble. He's a good matchup for this lefthanded heavy hitting Dodgers lineup too, especially the top.

A few notes from Carlos Mendoza:
* Mets are comfortable with David Peterson throwing up to 80 pitches; they desperately need innings from him
* Plan A includes Kodai Senga not pitching
* Sean Manaea is not available
* Ryne Stanek/Edwin Diaz can combine for 12 outs

Let him. Buster's no front office exec. Uncle Steve won't get outspent. Not worried.

Ps LFGM!
I really like our chances if they can get to Game 6. Game 7 puts a shitload of pressure on a team that has been known to fold. LGM!
come David, take us home!

Same. Let's get there first.
Now, let's put this one to bed and spank these turkeys. Beat on their bullpen in preparation for their Game 6 bullpen Game.
