Welcome to this best-of-seven National League Championship Series thread between the 6th seeded Mets (89-73) & the 1st seeded N.L. West Champion Dodgers (98-64).
All games for this series will be covered in this thread. The Dodgers had the best record in all of MLB during the regular season & beat the Mets during the regular season 4 times,
winning the regular season series 4 games to 2. The Mets will be looking for some payback against the Dodgers the same way they did against the Brewers & Phillies, who they also lost their regular season series against. Click

I can't stand the Dodgers and how smug they are.

Exactly.
Even the Mets' best player was never even selected as a NL All Star.

Drill Pages and Betts next season right in the ribs for their antics. Right now though it's all about getting a W and moving on to the next game. His gambling nonsense aside, Ohtani has been decent behaviorally speaking. Betts and Pages are little dogs with loud barks who need to eat a little humble pie next season at some point.
Even the Mets' best player was never even selected as a NL All Star.
The Mets have had the best record in MLB since the end of May. They're not the Cinderella story a lot of people may think. If they get to Game 7 (strong chance), then anything can happen. Besides, this year's W.S. winner looks like whoever gets out of the National League.

?
Probably Senga + Severino + Quintana + Grimace + Diaz
Sevy will start a game 7. Senga will come in either tomorrow or Monday, depending on circumstances.
I can't stand the Dodgers and how smug they are.
Pages is the guy who should have seen some chin music.
I thought about this as well. You hate the break after our bats got hot and you don’t love the rest the Dodgers bullpen gets but you just have to remember our pen gets the rest too.
Tell me if I’m wrong but I actually really like the swings McNeil has been taking the last few days. I find myself thinking I’m pleasantly surprised by how he’s looked.
I think I have to come back with McNeil again, and Winker is a no brainer at this point.

Derek Jeter was spot on about that during the Post Game Show on FS1. Their pitchers on the other hand are happy to wait an extra day.

McNeil is an upgrade over Iglesias at this point. Alvarez flipped the script yesterday too. Here's some more food for thought: Marte has been white-hot this series. Him and Pete together with Lindor are dangerous. Good luck to the Dodgers' bullpen in Game 6 if those guys pick up where they left off.
The Mets can score runs in bunches. It's even more possible now with more of their guys picking their games up. Winker should have gotten more burn in previous games, like we've all been saying. He's a difference-maker at this point and has to play consistently for however long the Mets have left to give them the best chance possible to win. Martinez is great to have on the bench and is a team guy who'll help however he can with tips and observations. Kudos to the Mets' hitting coaches too (Eric Barnes and Eric Chavez) for their gameplan last night. Nobody struck out. When's the last time that happened?
Marte continues to be the straw that stirs the drink, he's a forgotten weapon in our lineup and is white hot right now.
Theres a video of when the Temptations singing my girl and then the camera goes on Lindor doing his warmups and singing along, crowd goes wild. So awesome
Fav moment last night was Stanek walking off the mound and throwing up devil horn/rock on symbol to the crowd. Doesn't even look back to see if the ball is caught, it's like he fucking knew. so bad ass
I think Sevy needs to come in and follow the same format, keep the ball in the zone avoid the walks and let the fielders field the ball. If they get a solo HR then so be it but we gotta attack.
Lets fkn go METS!
2024 Postseason Picture & Schedule

Who will get home-field advantage in the 2024 World Series? | MLB.com | October 19th, 2024 | By Matt Kelly @mattkellyMLB
-The Yankees would have home field against the Mets, but not against the LAD.
-The same 2-3-2 format with off days between Games 2 & 3 and 5 & 6 again would be in effect.
______________________________________________________
-Whatever happens this series, the Mets' next team plane ride will be their last of the season. Hopefully it's after Game 7 on Monday night and is a victorious one.
-The logistics would be great for the Mets in the World Series if they're there: sleeping in their own beds for road games and at least a couple of team bus rides from Queens to the Bronx. Sure beats cross country 6 hour+ flights through three time zones. Would especially be best for our pitchers. Let's get there first of course.
-The World Series starting this coming Friday would give plenty of time for the entire pitching staff to rest for the start of the World Series, other than your potential Game 1 starter (assuming he's not used at all for Games 6 and 7).
I didn't have strong feelings either way and beating the prison stripers would be great. I felt the downside would be too much talk about the subway series, Clemens vs. Piazza, blah blah vs. analysis of the current teams. But now, I'm totally on board!
Of course there's a long way to go to get there.

“Any circumstances,” Mendoza said on Senga’s availability. “He’s a good pitcher. Like I said, guys will step up. And I wouldn’t hesitate giving him the ball in the third, in the fourth, in the sixth in the seventh. It depends — he might be getting the last three innings of the game.”
“Hes on the active roster. There’s a reason why. He’s a good pitcher. And, like I said, people will step up. Senga is one of them.”

Added motivation for logistical reasons alone. Plus, if the Mets can get past the Dodgers, they can beat anyone (just the Yankees at this point now). Their confidence would be through the roof coming back home.
Mets vs Dodgers (1988 National League Championship Series Game 6)
Give this a watch please of you can before today's game, or at least skip through it. This should have been the clinching game for the Mets that season, but Game 4 happened (that's for another thread). David Cone was MASTERFUL this game. A true thing of beauty.
The spotlight is on the Mets and Dodgers solely now, and hopefully for tomorrow as well if Manaea can come close to replicating what Coney did 36 years ago in this very same situation. McCarver and Michaels called a great game too in the announcers' booth. Makes the FS1 crew (Davis and Smoltz) look like amateurs.

-The Mets are trying to force a 7th game with their ace Manaea on the mound tonight. Hopefully he can repeat his performance from Game 2 at Dodger Stadium tonight as the Dodgers throw a bullpen game, just as they did in Game 2—which the Mets won going away, 7-3. According to Carlos Mendoza, Kodai Senga will be available out of the bullpen tonight. None of the Mets’ hitters struck out in Game 5. Hopefully they can see as many pitches as possible and push the Dodgers’ bullpen pitch counts as high as possible. Today is Keith Hernandez’s 71st birthday. Hopefully the Mets can gift him with a win tonight.

I know I have to be rational about this. LA is a great team. But please let this be our time!

I think the Mets win tonight. It'd hurt not to get to a 7th game. I remember the NLCS defeats in 1988 and 1999. They saved face in 99 and came close to getting to a 7th game against the Barfs after being down 3 games to none. I was able to live with that one but couldn't help but think "what if". Thankfully they got to the World Series the next season. 1988 was a choke job. In this situation, the Mets need to force a 7th game. They have the superior starting pitcher and a hot hitting lineup tonight. Then let it all hang out in a 7th game. Gotta give this group a chance to play for a pennant tomorrow by winning today. I think they will. No Freddie Freeman!!

06 was really disappointing. After Endy's catch thought we were a lock.

Ugh...I tried to put tht one out of my memory!
Love this lineup. I think McNeil will be a secret weapon at the back end of this lineup. He seems so close to catching fire, those were some monster sac flys he was hitting.
Marte is still my engine who keeps things rolling
Keeping my trust in Manaea, I think he can get us to 6, pending on where were are at lineup I expect Stanek would be next but man....would be nice if we can go back to Butto being dominant. In fact I'm calling it, Butto will be a big factor tonight. Optimist cue the Bubba Sparx
If we see Senga, I would imagine extremely short leash and I would have to assume Mendoza and Hefner would only do if they saw him in BP and corrected his wildness.
Alonso just rip another one please.
Love. you. all

Gary Cohen was talking on the SNY PRegame Show a few minutes ago about how Manaea hit the wall around the 6th inning last time and that his tell tale sign of losing it was not his velocity but his control.
Another leadoff Lindor HR please!

Here, here! I've been looking forward to this all day Eric. Great start with a 4-pitch walk to Lindor. I don't want this to end.
Gotta tip your cap to that
Whatever happens, gotta be thrilled with that
Ahh he just missed it
This guy has hung like 5 sliders and put 3-4 93 mph down the middle.
That was bad.
