NFT: Knicks final preseason game @Washington 7pm

nygiants16 : 10/18/2024 8:37 am
Expectation is normal regular season rotation, which we havnt seen yet..

Does Thibs go with Payne, Deuce, Precious and Sims with Bridges? or does Thibs maybe go with 2 starters on the court at all times?

I dont trust Sims at all so i would lean Bridges and Kat with the second unit

Sims is the opposite. I’m not sure Red Auerbach himself could make that guy look like an nba player

Sims is just not very good. One could still say that he’s even got this much out of him is impressive. Sims very easily could have never seen NBA minutes with any other organization.
Towns and Bridges

I thought we'd see the actual rotation tonight but Thibs has gone
LW_Giants : 10/18/2024 7:56 pm : link
11 deep already and he def won't do that in this season.

Bridges isn't a good three point shooter, but KAT is so his shot should come. I'm way more worried about the defense. Bridges and Hart are missing assignments and Sims is an abject disaster.
Dadiet out there with Brunson and Towns.

I don't think so, Deuce is getting a rest day and Thibs has gone 10 deep, which won't happen in the regular season.

Dadiet may just be an NBA player, and he's only 19!
Bridges is a pretty good three-point shooter, but not lights out.

Yea, I think Hart is going to end up coming out of the starting lineup at some point because he's really playing the role/taking the space Bridges should be.

He and Donte are almost identical career % from three which is largely why Donte was expendable. Donte just had a career year as a Knick and why trading him when they did made a lot of sense.

BTW, I really hate the KAT trade
NYDCBlue : 10/18/2024 8:16 pm : link
I think Randle is slightly better than him, thus the best player in that trade, plus loosing The Big Rangue will be huge for our shooting and spacing. AND WE THREW A FIRST ON TOP??????

Terrible trade. Then again the Knicks have a long history of terrible trades, so this one barely registeres in the history of the team.

I may have been Randles biggest fan that posts here but the reality is that Randle was going to be a free agent after this season, better get value for him now then chance losing him for nothing. Couple that with losing IHart and it was a smart move to make

KAT and Bridges have yet to shown that they can be reliable perimeter shooters. We've seen they can do that on other teams. Hopefully it's just rust.

So you were going to play Randle at the 5? You were going to pay him 45 to 50 million a year..

and no Randle is not better than KAT, literally there is nothing Randle is better than KAT at on the court..

KAT is also a much better fit than zrandle was

So long as KAT hits his threes like he's shown he can do in his career. But he's been awful from 3PT land in preseason.

I know, I'm just nervous. You wonder if he's getting up there in age and slowing down. IDK. But it's not it's his knees. He barely gets any vertical on his jumpshot.

Never does, even when he posts up..
He’s 28, in his prime
steve in ky : 10/18/2024 10:57 pm : link
He’s a better career three point shooter than Dante, he’ll be fine. He just hit traded, had to move and get acclimated to a new team and it’s preseason. It far too soon to be nervous about his shot
Josh Hart
Jon In NYC : 10/18/2024 11:37 pm : link
With what, 2 points through four games on 5 shots?

At some point he’s just more impactful off the bench.

I think the Knicks best five will ultimately be jb-deuce-bridges-OG-KAT

Deuce is simply a better 3 and D player than Hart and that’s what the starters need imo.

Payne will play but I’d love a Kolek-Hart-Dadiet-Precious bench
You will see plent of Deuce with the starters
nygiants16 : 10/19/2024 8:27 am : link
he will be the first sub in and he will play 30 minutes a night, but i thjnk we will see the value of Josh Hart when the real bullets start to fly..

Little things like fjnding the open space to cut when his man goes to cut, crashing the boards because no one is putting a body on him, him pushing the pace off rebounds..

His 3 point shooting will be suspect but you cant just ignore him, you ignore him and you are asking for him to grab offensive boards..

It will be Brunson and KATs job to find him on those cuts..
Hart
steve in ky : 10/19/2024 8:48 am : link
I almost get the impression that now that he has his extension behind him, he’s fine with doing the dirty work that helps the team and not look to score. But we’ve scene where he goes on runs himself, especially on the fast breaks which will happen more in the regular season. He scores when game dictates he needs to. I’m not worried that he’s not looking to shoot a lot during preseason, I actually think it’s a positive if his during the preseason. It’s all about the team with him and now his teammates whose games rely on shooting need that work more.
I also think its a good sign
nygiants16 : 10/19/2024 8:55 am : link
the Knicks havnt shot well at all and are one of the highest scoring teams in the preseason..
A good deal of patience is going to be
Chris L. : 10/19/2024 8:57 am : link
required with this thing. Basically a whole new starting lineup. It is going to take some time for everyone to get comfortable. They will each eventually find their place. Right now Towns, Bridges and Hart all look very uncomfortable and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, it is to be expected. Everyone should be more worried about the injuries piling up. We are starting the season with three fifths of our second unit injured and they have only played five preseason games. Also, on the positive side, all three of the draft picks look like they will be NBA rotational plays at some point. That is huge considering the cupboard is not as stocked as in the recent past.

“I’m lost. I have no idea,” Hart said. “There’s a couple days before we have until Boston. So whether that’s trying to get a rhythm with that starting unit or we give somebody else a look and my role changes and comes off the bench and go with that unit. So just trying to figure out right now I pretty much have no idea. But we’ll see what happens in Boston (in the season opener Tuesday).”

That was Hart after the game. Safe to say he doesn't feel like he's impacting the game with the starters.

He's not even rebounding at a high level. 12 rebounds in total across 4 games and 90 minutes.

It's preseason, moving parts, etc., but it's something to monitor
We’ve seen many examples to know
steve in ky : 10/19/2024 9:25 am : link
Hart wears his emotions on his sleeves and is vocal about it. He’s the least of my worries on this team
And I’m not disputing the benefits that he would bring to second unit
steve in ky : 10/19/2024 9:29 am : link
Because we’ve seen him in that role. All I’m saying is he’s not an issue and will find his game when it counts whether the situation calls for him to start or come off the bench. Harts not an issue
Yeah, I mean
Jon In NYC : 10/19/2024 9:34 am : link
I don't think he's lost his mojo, he's just the worst player of the five starters. He's the 5th best scorer and probably 3rd best defender.

His best skill is probably his chaotic energy, which feels like a huge lift as the 6th man and less impactful as a starter.

Deuce meanwhile has his 10 3s in 3 preseason games and spaces the floor for Brunson and KAT to work their basically unstoppable two man game.

We'll see what happens but I think the move makes a ton of sense.
I don’t disagree
steve in ky : 10/19/2024 9:38 am : link
I trust Thibbs to push the right buttons
There isn't anything more meaningless than pre-season stats
Stu11 : 10/19/2024 9:48 am : link
I don't care what sport we're talking about. I would take them with less than a grain of salt. There probably will be an adjustment period to start the season working 2 huge new pieces into the starting lineup in Bridges and KAT. The best news is coming out of camp outside of Mitch which we baked in, we're healthy. Excited to tip it off Boston and hopefully wreck their banner raising.
I’m not really concerned about hart
Knickstape : 10/19/2024 9:53 am : link
Strictly because he is just the energizer bunny. He just goes and goes. I’m not looking at him to contribute 15-18 points. Just crash the boards. Play defense and give his normal great effort.

My concern is bridges right now. That hitch he has is rough and him talking about trying to fix his jumper is what worries me. He’s looked dreadful and we will see how fans handle him playing poorly if he starts the season as bad as he is currently. Given how we dealt 5 picks. Your gonna have alot of noise about how we should have kept Divo

That being said I’m still happy with the trade and know we need to be patient. But id be lying if I wasn’t a little bit surprised at the shooting from
Him so far.
It's the last preseason game...

and they definitely haven't gelled yet. I wouldn't say I'm concerned, but I thought they'd be further along than this.

At the end of the day, we're going to have to get consistent offensive output from guys who haven't shot well in the preseason. Bridges, OG and KAT all need to find their shots. Lots of room for improvement.

I have been encouraged by the Brunson-KAT game. Brunson has found KAT on a couple really nice cuts to the basket so that is promising.

The sky isn't falling, but there's still a lot of work to do to get to where I want the team to go.
i Can see the argument to start Deuce
nygiants16 : 10/19/2024 10:07 am : link
harder for teams to put their center on Deuce and Hart can come off the bench and just cause havoc

The Brunson/KAT two man game is going to determine about 85% of the Knicks success this year. The remaining 15% will be if someone can figure out how to score against OG and Bridges.

If KAT shoots 40% from 3 on like 8 attempts per game and Brunson does Brunson things, the offense is going to be absurd.
Not gonna lie, the guy I’m concerned about is Bridges
Mike in NJ : 10/19/2024 10:38 am : link
What the hell did he do to his shooting form? It looks long, awkward, and he’s shooting terribly. He’s trying to change the release point, and so far it just does not look like a good move, he needs to just stick with what’s been working.
