College Football Saturday 10/19

Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 10/19/2024 10:39 am
Texas-Georgia and Alabama-Tennessee are the headliners for SEC supremacy, but obviously a ton of fun games today and a surprisingly interesting Noon kickoff slate.

Miami at Louisville
Nebraska at Indiana (among a bunch of Big Ten noon kickoffs)
Auburn at Missouri
Louisiana at Coastal Carolina (yes the Sun Belt)
South Carolina at Oklahoma (first team to 20 wins)
Notre Dame at Georgia Tech (GT QB is out)
USC at Maryland
Colorado at Arizona (Arizona will have AMAZING uniforms for this one)
LSU at Arkansas
Kansas St at West Virginia
Kentucky at Florida (possible bowl eliminator for both ... and job elimination for Billy Napier)

Let's do it!

There will be suspensions. Even if the overturn was correct, that it happened after the bottle barrage is not a good look. Whomever made the original PI call should sit for a couple games.

The suspensions should be for the overturn. Bad calls happen. And it wasn't like the game was out of hand with bad calls. But to change the call after a five-minute delay because of fan retaliation is absurd.

Beck needs to pull his head out of his ass or Georgia is going to lose this...
wait, bw, what was it you said in your 9:58? Blame it on their youth? I see no sense of command from either one, Jones' eyes. You watch a ton more CFB than I, but are you not surprised by his small these QBs are coming up... granted no one was going to excel vs the H1 GA d.

But what a game here!

I don't disagree and that will likely be true, but the guy that called the PI was dead wrong. Classic case of the WR pushing off to open space.

Not a very good crop this year. Taking one in round 1 would be foolish.

that long run he had in the second quarter was special. That was an explosion type move where he showed another gear I didn't know he had.
The SEC is a brutal conference, so many good teams

We knew no one was going undefeated. Lots of big games to play. Texas played a lousy half and deserved to lose, but thats all it takes when you play GA/Bama/Tenn/Ole Miss/LSU
These officials look like they are

Georgia’s recruiting dominance is really shining tonight.

They’ve been the best run program in college football the past few years and it shows.

it was targeting because the defender lowered his crown, your taught to tackle with your facemask up not down. It was 100% the right call. Bad tackling form by the defender

Agreed. And when I see players still doing it, I can't help but conclude that coaches are still teaching the technique.
SEC is wide open now.
PatersonPlank : 10/19/2024 11:35 pm : link
I still think GA and Texas are two of the best teams in the country. Lots of SEC games to play, GA still has to play Ole Miss and Tenn, Texas has to play A&M, LSU has to play Alabama and A&M, etc.
Impressive Georgia D with Texas run game

going for 27c/29y/1.1. As Sark said at half, they were losing first down and mostly behind the chains. Texas D also played very good but its OL didn't get it done last night.

I see these two teams playing again. Ole Miss has to beat Georgia to have a chance at the playoffs. Texas schedule is not very challenging moving forward imv.

It really doesn't matter right now...
bw in dc : 10/20/2024 7:57 am : link
but Georgia should be #1. They held Texas to 260 total yards, less than 30 rushing yards, 2 for 15 on 3rd down and 1 for 5 on 4th down. And at UT where they won by 15 despite their QB's horrific play.

Nobody is teaching that. It is a natural defensive reaction to a collision to duck under.
As I said, why is the ball carrier allowed to lead with his crown? Why does the defender need to be the one to get speared? Have you ever seen a RB or WR get called for lowering their head to impact the defender.

The intent of the penalty is good. The enforcement is flawed.

Yep, these two should be in the final 12, either as SEC Champ or at-large. They both can have 1 loss at the end. LSU is the fly in the ointment since they have the easiest SEC schedule, not playing either Texas or Georgia luckily. They could be there in the end too but I'm not sure how the SEC tiebreakers work (too complicated to think about now)
If your team doesn't get into the final 12 just throw a temper

tantrum like the babies in Texas. Then the committee can think about it more and change their minds.

What a joke.

What is the story on Kurtis Rourke
Rick in Dallas : 10/20/2024 10:01 am : link
I had never seen him play before yesterday.
His first half performance against Nebraska was outstanding before his thumb injury
Hope it is not serious.
I get more out of watching tough opponents vs these QBs
PatersonPlank : 10/20/2024 10:03 am : link
than watching them against Kennesaw State (or equivalent). After seeing how Ewers and Beck handled the pressure and adversity, I don't really want either of them. Not mobile enough and not accurate enough. Conditions like last night are more like what they will see in the NFL. Its easy to look good when all your players are better than all the other teams players.
LoL - just checked around various sites and the drumbeats are growing
PatersonPlank : 10/20/2024 10:05 am : link
louder for a switch to Archie among Texas fans. One thing is certain, I think Archie's running would have helped slow down the Georgia pass rush last night, like Milroe's running did

Transfer in from Ohio University where he was MAC POTY. Having a great year and should be in more of these QB prospect discussions. I've raised his name quite a bit lately. Excellent size, plus arm and some mobility (but not great).

I can't believe he isn't mentioned more in the Heisman race, too.
Rourke’s passes outside the numbers to the sidelines were outstanding

I was watching the game yo see Dylan Rayola and was stunned by Rourke’s performance.

Rourke has been playing like he did yesterday all year. I think actually have a good chance against Ohio State.

Raiola has real fundamental issues. He needs to stop thinking he's Mahomes - because he actually does - and get back to basics. He's a talented kid, but he isn't Mahomes.
Just saw where Rourke...

is out at least next week against Washington and maybe longer. Thumb injury on his throwing hand. That is significant news.
