I don't care to argue whether Daboll should/shouldn't get another year. All I know is that the next coach should be a McVay/Shanahan/LaFleur understudy. It's as simple as that - you can throw a dart at any assistant and probably have a chance of picking the best coach from off-seasons HC candidate pool.
Jake Browning (Bengals/Zac Taylor) took his first NFL snap last year (Year 5 of his career) and completed 71% of his passes, averaged 266 yards per game, and threw 11 TDs, 7 INTs, and added 88 yards and 3 TDs on the ground.
Malik Willis (Packers/LaFleur) looked like the worst QB in NFL history last year, and this season he went 2-0, completed 76% of his passes, 2 TDs 0 INTs, 100+ on the ground and a TD.
McVay, Shanahan, Slowik, Kevin O'Connell, Mike McDaniel .. look what their offenses look like, almost entirely regardless of who is playing QB (aside from the Skylar Thompson/Tyler Huntley Dolphins).
Those teams' worst offensive performances of the season would probably be our best.
Can't strong-arm guys like them.
Mara prefers first-timers.
"Let me show you how its done here sonny..."
I like Daboll and hope he gets a season with Jones, its Jones that is the cancer on this team no Daboll and the players know it.
It isn't even about winning, it is about admitting what everyone else sees and about moving forward.
Slayton needs to be traded- asap.. Every game gives a potential for injury and more chances to drop passes.
Ojulari- traded before he is injured or before we lose any ability to recoup some draft capital.
Banks- trade him, bench him, suspend him I don't give a shit..
look how much trouble mcdaniels is having in Miami this year, yes a lot of that is tua but before tua got hurt he was having one of the worst QB'd games of the season. defenses have had a lot of seasons to try to adapt.
i would go full dan campbell smash mouth culture builder. vrabel is very much in that spirit, but obviously with belichick out there that's enormously appealing if he's willing.

When we all publicly acknowkedge it's Mara that's to blame.
Anybody wanna chip in for a billboard?...
Any good candidates are going to look at the dead bodies stacked up outside Mara's office, the organizational structure, the expectations of winning with a bad roster/QB and be pretty cautious about adding their name to Mara's body count.
Wouldn't it make sense to bring him in right now? He wants full control, give him the reigns. GM or HC. Add Vrabel - let these two evaluate this dumpster fire before the deadline and make the deals.
Big DJ fan here, but it's officially over for me. Banks pulling up on that play then admitting sometimes you just say "nah" - have we reached the embarrassment level of the 1960's yet?

Doesn't make sense to me. He's very old and is just chasing Shula's record. He's done after that IMO.
I'd take Vrabel if he can stand up to Mara and Co.

this is my fear as well....

Is going to be a very, very undesirable job if it opens. The young coordinators have already shown that they are willing to turn down jobs if it's not the right fit.

There's only 32 of these jobs. Sure you may miss out on 1-2 good options, but there are a lot out there. It's well documented the Dan Campbell hire in Detroit was mostly laughed at. Look at him now and look at the rest of the coaches that were hired in that cycle (Urban Meyer, Brandon Staley, Robert Saleh to name a few) ...
