Is it worth it anymore?

JohnB : 10/21/2024 3:40 pm
We put so much time, energy, money, and fandom behind the New York Giants and yet, year after year, this team is done by Halloween. Every year the league grows more and more Into having the “dollars first” mindset, making us pay for that fandom. And yet, the product Giants fans receive is lacking. We get 4-6/8 weeks of “hope” and than 44 weeks or so of “wait until next year”. All the while, the NFL is trying to drain our wallets.

I’ve been a Giant’s fan for 45 years and I’m thinking about making a business decision of my own.
Do we have a choice?

I mean some will say, "go out and touch grass" or "if it bothers you that much, don't watch it" but we're essentially held hostage here.

We're the battered wives and the New York Football Giants are Ike Turner.
Ya might need some additional interests or hobbies

to check yourself. The lows are what make the highs what they are.
It's the life of being a fan.

It's a wild concept but if you're lucky the team you root for will win maybe 2/3 championships in your lifetime. That means about 70-80 years of disappointment. Any many of those being not just disappointment, but hopelessness and embarrassment.

But to answer your question, yes it's worth it.

and the paper bags over the fans heads?

When do season ticket holders say enough is enough?????

I would never tell anyone how to spend their time & money, but there

was no greater feeling in the world than 1986 when the Giants won the Super Bowl for the first time....or when they won it in 2007 for TC and Eli's first win.
Why? Because all the years of having to eat it from other teams reversed due to winning a championship. In the meantime we have to hope players like Nabers, Nubin, Phillips, Johnson, Tracy, Banks, and Tibs continue to show improvement throughout this year. They could be ....SHOULD be the group that helps get the Giants back on top.

beyond bizarre analogy
i do spend time, but not money

I watch some games and some Giants youtubers, so that could be considered wasting time. But I find it interesting and entertaining. If it stops being entertaining (which is what sports is) then i won't watch

I didn’t watch yesterday and I won’t until Jones is no longer QB.
I try to
46and2Blue : 10/21/2024 4:05 pm : link
Remember it is entertainment. When it’s out of control bad I just switch to a different game or go do something else. But I won’t spend any money on extras like tickets and gear and what not. I’m a huge giants fan and I can’t just root for another team but I can control my response to the shit product they put out in number of ways
I watch the games now if I can and get over it quickly

I've found pouring myself into some home improvement or project I've been putting off right after a game is the way to go.
I don't pay a cent to watch the Giants.
BuryMeInBlue : 10/21/2024 4:17 pm : link
I don't buy jerseys or gear. I don't go to games. I don't make TV streaming purchasing decisions based solely on whether I can stream a Giants game. Nor will I do any of these things until they become competitive.

If I were spending any money on the Giants whatsoever at this point in the game, I'd seriously be asking myself "why am I doing this?"
You don't owe them anything
Jerry in_DC : 10/21/2024 4:30 pm : link
If you don't want to watch a game, don't watch a game. Nothing bad will happen to you. You'll still be fan. This is not a serious organization. They retain a lot of goodwill from their customers that they do not deserve. They will lose it over time though if they don't adapt.

Watch when you want to. Don't watch when you have something else you'd rather be doing. The vast majority of the games from the last 10 years have been miserable, boring, and completely unmemorable.

In 2008 I missed some games because I was working in Europe. I do regret missing those games. Now, I miss some games because I'm an adult with kids and other hobbies. I don't regret it at all.
If you don't like it...

Stop watching and stop buying tickets and merchandise etc. I'm actually relieved when they don't play on Sundays because then I know my day won't be ruined. I won't be watching anymore games this year unless Devito is starting ( Sorry, I like the kid and I know he'll sling the ball ). I record the games and if by some miracle they win, I'll go back and watch it, if not, I'll go about my business not caring.

But it's just not about the QB, this is some kind of Mickey Mouse offense Daboll has strung together and it's painful to watch. Reminds me exactly of when Fromm and Glennon were playing and it's just boring AF. In this day and age of offensive football, we should be scoring more than 12 ppg. Kafkas offense was way better than this shit Daboll is serving so in essences, I'm voting with my wallet and I'm refusing to watch this garbage product.
So I have been doing things differently

I've never missed a game- preseason or regular season. It just doesn't happen.

What I do is one of two things.

1. I'm not planning my Sundays around the game anymore. If I need to record it, get home during the game and catch up by skipping commercials and half time or even watch the whole thing later in the day I'll do that.

2. If I can get something else done at the same time I'll do it. Yesterday I cleaned out the garage while listening to Papa and Banks on the Sirius App. I'd never have done that 15 years ago. I would have been glued to the TV.

I do agree that it beats you down but we have to be strong. That blue and white jersey with the hint of red means something to all of us. The players don't really bleed the same blue that we do, but if you want to enjoy the highs I believe that you need to suffer the lows.

The Giants will be back eventually and I'll be there to enjoy it.

You're not going to get "buried in blue" with that kind of attitude. ;>)
Ironically maybe

Here in PA where Pittsburgh and Philly have been good or great most years every year in the past 20 or so years, some of their fans get frontrunner fatigue. The Steelers will be 5-1 or whatever and they've maybe watched one game on the season.
The majority of the games they can take or leave and just assume a victory.

We'll get there by 2045
I have to admit
butler : 10/21/2024 5:44 pm : link
I DVR'd Seattle and Cincinnati because they were up against the Mets and only watched the one they won. I just kept doing it this weekend even though the games didn't conflict yesterday because I was pretty sure the game was going to suck, and again just deleted it. I just don't have the patience anymore to watch this crap, and that's 3 hours plus I could spend with my family, or working, or watching something I'll enjoy. I've been a Giants fan since 1981 and have a lot of good memories but this prolonged misery has worn me down. I'm just going to keep DVR'ing for now unless things pick up.
