We are currently drafting in the 9th spot

We can't even be bad enough!

This is just sad.
People keep getting worked up over the wrong reasons

Where you pick doesn't matter. The teams consistently in the playoffs aren't there because of number 1 draft picks. How are the Jaguars doing?

The Giants picked 2nd in 2018, picked 6th in 2019, picked 4th in 2020, picked 5th & 7th in 2022, and picked 6th in 2024.

The Giants need to overhaul their organizational philosophy. Build an identity. Build a core belief system. They have nothing. They just pick players.
It would be helpful

If the Giants accumulate additional picks now for the 2025 draft. They should be forgoing the status quo in favor of flexibility in the draft. And then they could contemplate if QB isn't till 2026 parlaying that into 2026 flexibility.

I agree Sean

Gettleman set this organization back almost a decade with is poor use of draft capital, and Schoen hasn't exactly been stellar.

I actually think they've done that, but they've just missed on the talent too much (going back further than Schoen and Daboll). The idea of adding smart, tough, dependable players is generally sound, in theory, even though everyone knows that in the NFL, dependable is a crapshoot at best and bullshit at worst. But there's nothing wrong with the concept of getting character guys with that dawg mentality who hate to lose.

But none of it matters if your picks don't pan out. There's this old axiom: If you miss on the QB, you set your franchise back (at least) 5 years. Welcome to year 6.

2018, Barkley. Didn't equate to wins.
2019, Jones. See the axiom above.
2019, Lawrence. Legit pro bowl player.
2019, D. Baker. They traded up for this guy.
2020, Thomas. One of the best OTs in the league when he plays, now out with his second season ending injury.
2021, Toney. Inexcusable miss.
2022, Thibodeaux. Good player, but they needed great.
2022, Neal. Looks like a miss thus far.
2023 Banks. Starting caliber, but not a true shut down guy.
2024 Nabers. Looks like a star in the making.

Some of these guys may still get better, but that's 10 premium picks and thus far, and they only true difference makers are Lawrence, Thomas, and a probable in Nabers. However you want to count it, it's an under 50% hit rate.

Other teams find stud players and quality starters later in the draft. The Giants haven't had any luck there since pre-Gettleman.

The problem isn't the philosophy. It's that the infusion of real talent from the draft (where you build your core) has been minuscule. And it has spanned multiple GMs and Scouting staffs.
I have some optimism.

The revamped scouting staff seemed to have had more hits than misses in last year's draft. So if they continue to scout successfully again for the draft in 2025 maybe will get that cherished future quarterback that will turn our fortunes around. Let us hope that happens and with the rest of the picks they will add to the talent pool for the roster.

You're misconstruing process from results.

It's flatly incorrect to posit that draft order does not matter. If your premise is that picking at 1.32 is the same as 1.1 then it stands to reason that it would be even more advantageous to gain the rights to pick 1.1 but trade down to 1.32 while acquiring all of the additional draft capital that goes along with it. Whether you believe in the chances of acquiring a better player at 1.1 or 1.32, having the better pick matters.

You can argue that teams such as the Jags have mismanaged their draft capital but there's no serious argument to be had that "where you pick doesn't matter," from a resource allocation standpoint.

By the way, we can point to the Lions, Bills, Dolphins, Bengals, Texans, Bucs, Broncos, and even Niners as organizations that have had plenty of draft capital over the last 5-10 years to have become contenders.
If we keep losing we will draft higher

but either way, there are likely 3-5 QBs that are going to get a first round grade, are we finally going to invest in one?
Lots of bad teams in the league this year…..

it’s sad that the Giants currently have a worse draft position then last year! I’m sure it will improve as the year and Jones saga lives on though!

hope for a loss.

It takes a lot of dedication to get top 5 in the draft. I find it funny when fans here at BBI start talking about having the top pick after a bad loss.

I think we're trending towards a better pick, but we will prolly see at least 1 more W this year.

In the lower might be better department, if we had been picking 9th last year, it might have led to drafting JJM. It may work out similar this year if we draft at 9. The top QBs will be gone, and a lower spot may line up with a 2nd tier QB/value.
They might not need a top pick for a QB in 2025
JonC : 10/22/2024 2:32 pm : link
the crop, so far, certainly is not impressive.

If full bloom love can't be summoned for any of these prospects, perhaps we'd be better off with the devil we already know and have under contract...
