and Cleveland fans aren’t the most patient with poor QB play. I think Vegas would be a better landing spot, O’Connell is out, Minshew is a JAG, and no one in Vegas gives a shit about the Raiders.
Needs to be somewhere with lowmiddling expectations and
a fanbase willing to ride out the ups and downs with him. Somewhere not used to winning in the first place, where he presents the potential for better days. Somewhere also where the media isn't quite as harsh.
Carolina seems like the best fit to me, now that they seem done with Bryce Young. And especially since Daniel is from Charlotte and played at Duke, has Cutcliff ties, good kid, etc. Not to mention the Schoen/Morgan connection, in the event this would happen via trade.
I've said many times that of the 90ish QBs in the league Jones ranks in the 40-50 range. He's firmly backup quality. Has been since the day they drafted him.
That he isn't a starter period. But if he had too. I can see SF getting by with him because of run game and dependency on YAC
The 49ers YAC would drop off tremendously with Jones due to his inaccuracy. Our WRs often have to stop or look like contortionists trying to adjust to Jones' off target throws.
if Jackson went down with an injury. Their run game with Derrick Henry would take a lot of pressure off Jones and open play-action opportunities, which he was pretty good at during the 2002 season.
Even then, I'd have to question whether Jones is actually better than Minshew and/or O'Connell.
Carolina and Tennessee are the only other possibilities.
In Carolina, I still see Young starting again later this year. In Tennessee, I don't know shit but I still think Levis has potential.
RE: I could see Jones doing OK in Baltimore for a stretch

The LA teams, Arizona, Miami, Jacksonville and the Panthers. Basically any city where NFL football isn't very important; namely the South (minus the Falcons and Saints) or parts of the west coast.
Better served to sign someone, back up and learn from a vet.
The league has a QB problem, so he could definitely get another chance at some point. That's how bad it is. Imagine him in Green Bay with someone like Lafleur or in Pittsburgh with Tomlin who's a magnificent coach and leader. He'd be a lot better than what he's been in NY with these coaches. But for now, settle in as a back up to a vet and learn more. It happens all the time, ie Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield recently.
Also, Jameis is a rapist shithead. I never want to see him on this team.
If I were Jones I'd take my money and move to Portugal
If you can't complete passes of 20+ yards, you're not a starting NFL quarterback. And Jones has consistently failed to do that, even with time and open targets. He's played three halves this year where a team might say, ok, this guy can be our caretaker starter while we wait for the guy we draft to be ready. And if I have my fractions right, that means he's played 11 halves where he hasn't even looked that good. If you want to believe he has more games in him like the Seattle game to "sell" himself, knock yourself out. I hope so, but let's be realistic. Even without the Thomas injury that would've been an optimistic expectation. Now....
Even with a great line and great skill players, he cannot process coverages quickly and is inaccurate. Even on SF he would be a downgrade from Brock Purdy.
I am not sure he even gets signed as a backup next year
If Ryan Tannehill can't get a backup gig, why would we think DJ can? My guess is, with his injury history and complete lack of credibility with players around the league, there is a very real possibility that DJ's last play in the NFL will be in 2024 with the Giants. "Once a Giant always a Giant" may possibly never be so nauseatingly poetic.
The contract was insane and how long they have stuck with him is absurd. I’ve never seen anything similiar in sports.
When you consider how bad he's been and for how long, collectively he could really be considered one of the worst NFL QBs to play in many years. Players this bad don't get this many starts.
or Denver being interested in Jones as a back-up. And that's because both have savants as HCs and they could be intrigued by Jones's mobility and athleticism.
But I would call Atlanta and see if they would swap Jones for Penix along with this picking first which is going to be very high pick. I loved Penix coming out. He has a shot to be good.
He’s got a very specific skill set, to put it politely. He doesn’t really fit as a starter anywhere. He doesn’t have a ton of untapped upside so what you see is what you get, and what you see is a QB who won’t take your team anywhere.
With his contract no one is paying that kind of money for a backup

It's a match made in heaven.

Andy Dalton is a much better QB than Jones.

I wish it was 2002

If Jones went to Dallas and replaced Dak, it would be the first time Jones actually would help us beat the Cowboys.
He is a toxic as the swamps around the stadium.
Yet.....we keep trotting him out there!
I truly don’t view him in the top 40 of NFL Quarterbacks. He’s a middle of the pack backup, and I think that’s being kind.
The contract was insane and how long they have stuck with him is absurd. I’ve never seen anything similiar in sports.

Make it happen.
