Ezeudu was actually worse than I intially thought

Now Mike in MD : 10/22/2024 11:19 am
Here is Skinner's OL review.

Ezeudu was an abject disaster. He has not improved one iota since last year. He is just not an OT, and I am perplexed on Daboll's insistence that he is.

And this was against a Philly DL that was terrible rushing the passer this year.

What are the Steelers going to do with two legit stud ERs?

The Giants absolutely cannot trot this guy out there Monday or the Steelers might have 20 sacks. No exaggeration.
Ezeudu Wow! - ( New Window )
I’ll give him something of a pass

because he is playing out of position, but he is looking like one of many wasted OL picks for Schoen. He might be worse at picking OL than Reese was. That Neal can’t see the field and isn’t even in the team conversation as a potential fill in is such an indictment of his ability.

JMS was overdrafted and Neal, Ezeudu and McKethan all outright suck, but we want Schoen to come back? Why, exactly?
part of drafting is putting players in the right postion

premium day 2 pick 67 overall and its year 3. no position continuity.

we didnt give ezedeu any chance to find success in the nfl.
How

Was JMS overdrafted?

Ezeudu playing LT is the coaching choice. They were all about versatility for the line and discussed how Buffalo did it successfully. He had 6 starts at LT for UNC and most were at LG.
The Tarheel picks seem like the damning ones to me.

Schmitz and Neal were highly-touted prospects. In hindsight, they look like terrible picks, but there was nothing puzzling about those selections at the time. Ezeudu and McKethan were harder to understand in real time. When a GM makes a "We see something the draftniks are missing" pick, it really stands out if he's wrong. Gettleman's gamble on Jones was the most damaging example, but Schoen has had a few.
We had no plan
Essex : 10/22/2024 11:47 am : link
That is the crime of it if Thomas got hurt. Think about this, these fools from “Dabes” to “Schoen” had no plan of their LT got hurt
I would also add

all this bs about Ezedu improving etc was just that, bs
Ezeudu
AcidTest : 10/22/2024 12:02 pm : link
is not an NFL player IMO. He has been tried and failed at guard and tackle. I don't think McKethan is even on a PS right now. Both have bad feet and poor lateral agility and mobility. They can't go sideways or backwards. Neal has the same problem. He is not an NFL tackle but because of his power might be a guard.

Schoen is just the latest in a long line of Giants GMs who keeps drafting OL with bad feet and poor lateral agility and mobility. It's the main reason the OL has sucked for so long.
Ezeudu isn't going to get better at LT
Csonka : 10/22/2024 12:21 pm : link
He's a guard and maybe not even a good one.
If Ezeudu is better than Neal at LT, then damn.

I don't think JMS was a "terrible" pick, but he had some very real concerns. He was deemed most "pro-ready", but lacked size and strength, and didn't have great mobility to counter that. I still think he can be an effective starter.

I guess I'll die on the hill that Neal's refusal to work out, even at his own pro day, should have raised some major red flags. I do agree completely with your "out-thinking the draftniks" comment, and it extends past just OL. Wan'Dale is an even better example. His quickness is definitely an asset, but his size profile should have pushed him down a round. I like Flott, but he too fits the Wan'Dale dynamic, great quickness, but his size is a detriment in the run game.

There was nothing wrong with drafting Banks, but giving up 2 picks to move up one spot is a move contenders make, not mediocre teams that squeaked into a playoff spot.
Ezeudu was NOT
Dave on the UWS : 10/22/2024 12:35 pm : link
the back up to Thomas plan. They assumed Neal would be healthy and would resume at RT. This made Eleumenor available to play EITHER Left or Right tackle as a backup.

With Neal slow to recover/ and sucking, it forced them to plug JE into the ROT spot and by default, Ezeudu became the backup to Thomas.

Obviously, this has all blown up in their face, but the plan was fine.
Ezeudu should not be on an NFL roster
The Mike : 10/22/2024 12:51 pm : link
Obviously, they have zero confidence in him at guard otherwise they wouldn't have signed three journeymen linemen and placed all of them ahead of Ezeudu on the interior depth chart. And he is even more putrid at tackle! So starting him at the blind side tackle no less made zero sense except to conceal the fact that Evan Neal is an epic bust. And now they are working out other OTs rather than allowing Evan Neal to ever see live action this year. Ridiculous managerial incompetence.
Would imagine more tape on Ezeudu at Left Tackle
ThomasG : 10/22/2024 1:22 pm : link
is going to be a very bad thing for NYG QBs.

I don’t know how you can go into the season with Ezeudu as your backup
DeVito32 : 10/22/2024 1:45 pm : link
LT. They originally said if Neal was ready that Eleumunor was LG and Neal at RT. They did mention if Thomas got hurt there was a possibility of Eleumunor moving to LT yet he never practiced there. He’s had 7 starts at LT in his career. Neal was drafted 7th overall because he was a LT. His last year started at LT and was all American. He only played RT because we had Thomas.

Yes he’s been hurt and hasn’t had a lot of reps in practice or in games since he’s been in the NFL, but to not even have him getting reps there is ridiculous especially since he’s a backup now. How he’s not getting reps there is beyond comprehension and is very telling. This fully lands on Schoen and the coaching staff.
I be never seen a second of him in practice but
Blue21 : 10/22/2024 2:07 pm : link
after watching him at LT last year and hearing he was an emotional wreck after one of the games he was exactly what I expected last week. There has to be something going on with Neal that we don't know about. I understood he played some LT in college
Wasn't JMS playing well until last game?
BestFeature : 10/22/2024 2:10 pm : link
And now all of a sudden because of one game he's a bust.
Ezeudu’s game film…
thrunthrublue : 10/22/2024 2:14 pm : link
on a par with Zapruder’s. Has he ever practiced? Has he ever played football? Horrible reflection on the soon to be terminated JS, and all giants scouts.
Kid is not a OT
