Ok, here is a hypothetical for you..
say the Giants win just enough games to be in the same draft position next year. They've cut DJ and let Lock go. Devito is the only QB on the roster.
Maybe they draft a qb in the later rounds, but all the top ones are gone. Who do you want to bring in as a 1 yr stop gap qb? Darnold? maybe trade for Bryce Young or Stafford?
I like these types of thought experiments and want to hear what everyone thinks.
Intriguing...
Especially with the public vote of confidence from Mara.
For now...
If they get boxed out of the QB market again this place is going to hit max depression level in 2025.
Jones put up good numbers with Josh McDaniels. Daboll should be able to develop this guy, I think. Remember, we all thought Darnold was washed up, but when he got to a competent coach in Minnesota, he got a LOT better!
Again, my preference is to draft a QB, but Jones would at worst be a bridge QB, and he's young enough (27) to still be able to rescue his career. Like I said, worth a look.
Very similar to the Manning/Warner situation, possibly not that level of a vet though.
It is a bit of a pendulum swing to go from the timid Jones to the "screw it, I'm going deep" Winston, but I would like to see what Daboll could do with a QB with tons of physical talent. Can he improve the decision making and get decent play out of him?
But I don't imagine Mara would be on board with a QB who stole crab legs back in college.
Many posters are suggesting that the Giants won't lose enough games to take one of the top QBs, but unlike last year, there are not 3 consensus top guys. It seems like there are a lot of QBs that are all ranked about the same...
Sanders
Ward
Milroe
Ewers
Nussmeier
Beck
Aller
Dart
That's 8 QBs who have 1st RD potential (even though only about 4 will go that high).
I could see the Giants taking someone like Drew Aller as a project and letting him sit behind Stafford for a couple of years.
At 6' 5", Aller fits the Giants QB mold. In the last 30 years, Danny Kanell is the only QB named as the Giants' starter who was NOT 6' 5". DJ, Eli, Collins, Graham and Brown were all 6' 5".
More focus needs to be on who they select in the draft and to be sure they can get that particular QB.
Won't get an elite QB to be the stopgap, but some will be out there looking to A, get paid, and B, audition for their next job
Most likely they will need a proven vet FA like Flacco or Stafford, someone with an arm to make NFL quality throws. Draft we should do something like the Redskins did years ago when they drafted both RG3 and Cousins, we need to double dip and quit fucking around. Throw a handful of spaghetti (qb) against the wall in hopes something sticks. Right now we have the absolute worst QB room in the NfL so a full gut job and commitment in FA and draft is needed even if we are out of position on our top targets they need to draft a few guys in hopes they strike gold on a developmental guy.

It's not a bad idea by any means, but then you have that distraction. I mean looking back at 2004, I can't remember another time when we were under the microscope like that. There was team Warner and team Eli and whenever Warner made a mistake, people would be calling for Eli. It actually wasn't fair to Warner. He was playing okay when he was benched for Eli and were firmly in the playoff hunt.
Not only that, but also, it used to be that it was encouraged for rookie QBs to spend the year riding the pine and holding the clipboard. I think that's become an antiquated way of thinking and now rookie QBs are expected to play right away.
So I think it should be one or the other but not both: either draft a QB in the first round or sign/trade for a veteran QB and start him.

There were no charges filed after the accuser broke off communication with the police. A fresh investigation opened later found nothing to substantiate the charges.
But sure, just call someone a rapist based on a withdrawn accusation. Super intelligent and responsible post.

Not crazy about that because then it's another wasted year with Lawrence, Thomas, Nabers, Burns, etc. We should be competing. We're not JUST a QB away but it's the biggest thing we lack.
At least you know you can win with Stafford and he can still compete at a high level.
He also got in trouble for receiving stolen property, a laptop, and instead of giving it back, he hid from the police and threw the laptop out a window.
He also goes out of his way to defend Deshaun Watson. What a swell guy. Myles Garrett did, too, he's also a shithead.

A cheaper, affordable vet like Brissett, Rudolph, Flacco, Dobbs or Dalton makes sense.

I support Stafford, but I don't think it's realistic.
There are nearly 10 teams that should or could be in the market for a QB. Giants, Titans, Saints, Panthers, Raiders, and the Browns will likely all be looking for a QB. Steelers, Jets, Rams, and Seahawks are other possibilities but could see them waiting out their current options in 2025 due to the low supply.
If you miss on the consensus top 2 draft QB prospects (Sanders and Ward) and Darnold is not an option, then the pickings are very slim. I think the next best thing might be Allar or Nussmeier but I am not sold on either.
If I had to guess right now, I’d say Drew Allar is the guy they end up with. My second guess would be Dart.
As grim as that is, the best outcome is they will suck in 2025 and get Arch.
Those areas need improvement, especially the OL.
Fix that first. Wait a year on drfating a QB.
This isn't going to be a one year fix.

Yeah he seems like a dickhead. But, we wouldn't be bringing him to teach ethics and morals to high schoolers. It would be to play QB. I wouldn't decide a guy shouldn't be brought in because he was accused of something two different investigations determined did not have enough evidence to prosecute. I also would brand someone a felon based on my own biases.
They'll almost certainly draft a QB. The question is, is it an early-round prospect who they expect to start soon-ish, a late round developmental guy, or both?
Assuming it's just one of those, there's definitely room for a veteran bridge QB. Besides the names we're talking about, someone will shake loose who's not on our radar right now.
Another question: How much is it going to cost, all in, to fix the QB room? Money to bring in a veteran, and hopefully no picks. Picks to move up and get a rookie. They've kicked the can down the road for years and and now — like a lot of deferred repairs — it's going to be expensive. and both costs (money and picks) will probably hit at the same time. At least DJ will be off the books, hopefully.

Who would you like to see at QB?
Who do I want at QB next year? I would prefer a young player but would take Stafford or another older vet like Darnold before wasting a 1st round pick on a 2nd or 3rd round talent that may or may not develop.

I don't know that they reached as much as they had a relationship with David Cutcliffe and that biased them in that draft.
I have to admit, I'm a little afraid to hear what it might be.

I agree draft 2 qb's whoever loses out can be the backup
