After the win in Seattle, I started the Daniel Jones is an enigma thread for the reason that every time he feels like he's hanging by a thread, he puts up a solid performance. That performance is usually on the road.
I think there is a strong chance this is the last game Jones starts at QB for NYG. As Bobby Skinner said on his podcast, it doesn't make a ton of sense to make the QB switch on the road in Pittsburgh. After this game it's a home games against WSH, Carolina in Germany and then the bye. It would make more sense to make the switch then.
Does Jones put together a solid performance and quiet the noise or does the Jones era end Monday night?
He can't play well at home, full stop. He is slightly better on the road, and will actually look competent on the road against bad defenses.
He has no "last stand" in him. The offense will struggle against the Steelers, but expect him to play slightly better than he did against the Bengals and the Eagles, but not well enough to score 20+ points because the Steelers have a good defense.
If we win, he'll almost definitely get another start. If he looks like the last 2 games i think this game will be the end.
He will have some good games if he continues to play. That's just going to happen for this caliber of QB. Will it be Monday? The odds are certainly stacked against it. But you never know.
Coming up short season after season is one thing. Making obviously stupid moves that sabotage future seasons is something wholly different.
The only thing we can hope for is that Watt stays on the left side of their defensive alignment (that is where he usually plays), which would put him up against Eluemunor instead. Still, that might not be better - Watt can probably take Eluemunor 1v1, and almost anyone decent can beat Ezeudu 1v1. If we use 11 personnel, one of them is probably going to be on an island occasionally. So is it going to be max protect all game?
However, if the "last stand" refers to making a valiant effort and production consistently to get this team to playoffs this year, no, it's over - effectively and really finally with the team, the fans, etc.

I think the switch is made with another lousy offensive effort.
The guy is a backup QB. Every now and again backups can put up a good game. I would be happy if he was the back up to Eli Manning all those years. But not look forward to an extended period of time if Eli was out.
Can Daboll/Kafka design something that 1) prevents the pass rushers from getting immediate pressure and 2) allows Jones to get the ball out quickly to receivers who are 3) wide open, 4) his first read, and 5) within 10 yards of the LoS and inside the numbers.
If they can do that, Jones will be fine.
Look for the Steelers' defense to score more points than the Giants offense.
So IMO no, Jones does not have one last stand in him.
It's unlikely that he gets more than one of those.
(And nothing against the O.P. as an individual.)
I can't see the Giants scoring at all - other than blunders by the Steelers. Their defense is very good and our LT is out, an their bye week is next week so there's no trap game.
I'd expect the Giants offense to be dreadful.
Jones should be benched for this game, but I hope this is the last time we see him starting for NYG.
be watching baseball?
He may get the Washington game after this, but it's very dicey at that point. He's already been benched once, and he's playing at home with six straight games scoring zero TDs, don't know how you sell the locker room on that.
So IMO no, Jones does not have one last stand in him.
The crazy thing is, they don’t even have to disguise coverages. Everybody shows pretty much the same thing, zone, keep all the WR’s in front of you, then drive on the WR as soon as Jones starts his motion. No one is concerned he’ll go deep.

If you're tired of discussing DJ (which is what I assume you're referring to) then why open the thread? It's akin to walking up to a group of people engaged in a conversation and insisting that they change the subject because YOU are tired of talking about it.
As far as DJ... No he doesn't have a last run in him and No this is not his last start. He lasts at least until the bye.

I guess it depends on whether the impediment to him succeeding on prime time has to do with viewership.
I think it might have to do with schedule/routine and quite possibly the glare (literally) from the lights playing at night (although that would have been more apparently domed games too, and to my knowledge there's not an obvious dome/outdoor split in his stats).
Not the Steelers are world-beaters but they will be looking to pile on and have some fun at home on national tv. And DJ is their early Thanksgiving turkey.
1-14 in prime time comes from being consistently bad.
Not throwing a home TD pass to your own team in 6 straight starts over 2 seasons comes from being consistently bad
Jones isnt just bad at home. He is bad on the road.
Last year he was 1-3 on the road with blowout losses vs Miami & SF as well as what was a atrocious start vs Raiders before injury
We were blownout by Philly in playoffs the year before as well
We cant win in Philly or Dallas for years either
Etc etc

Right, the Steelers offense isn't imposing. Wilson had a nice second half last week versus the Jets, but I don't know what to expect from him. Jones is going to have his hand full.
But their D is pretty good at creating turnovers and great at keeping teams out of the endzone. They haven't been a high sack team but that might chance Monday night.
Dead man walking would be a better descriptor of his 2024 season.
Many say the season is over but here is the list of teams in the Super Bowl era that started 2-5 or worse and made the playoffs.
Team Season W L
GNB 2023 2 5
JAX 2022 2 5
PHI 2021 2 5
WAS 2020 2 5
IND 2018 2 5
KAN 2015 2 5
HOU 2015 2 5
DEN 2011 2 5
NYJ 2002 2 5
DET 1995 2 5
NOR 1990 2 5
CIN 1970 1 6
Not many but it has been done. In fact 5 out of the last 6 seasons. I don't expect it. But Jones has given this team his all for the last six years. I don't see our backups as being significantly better than Jones. So to me let him have his full opportunity and then if he hits 9 losses or playoff elimination close the door on the Daniel Jones era and move on. I see that moving on happening at the start of December. But you never know.

Seriously? We've done this so many fucking times already. I try not to curse on here pursuant to Eric's wishes, but enough already.

I'm not tired of discussing DJ, I was merely expressing my exasperation at this line of thinking, but apparently I did not do that well enough to get my message across--which is on me.
A penalty and nabers bailed him out in Cleveland too
He was really good that game. Can you specify a drive where he left plays on the field? He's been bad, specifically against Minnesota, Cincinnati and Philly. And they need to play DeVito, no question. But the Giants offense was missing two of its best starters and gave its best tape in years.
Seattle get blown out if the refs correctly call Gray's fumble as a TD.
Well, he's still playing 6 years in. Doesn't take much for this franchise to recommit to Jones unfortunately.
