i know 11 years isnt nothing, but if they are going to go in the experienced direction Belichick is a more obvious fit. Would be happy with either one though.
Gruden is definitely not who this franchise should turn to, especially with the accusations that the Giants are a racist organisation as many have said regarding the whole fiasco involving Brian Flores.
By bringing BB here as the HC, that would pretty much mean that Joe Schoen's job would be over, since BB likes to control the hiring of players as well as coaching them.
It would be interesting to see whether any of the current members of the coaching staff would remain, or whether BB would reach out to some of his former assistants. Just keep Joe Judge away from the Giants.
Mara is not going to hire someone who embarrassed the league
I think Gruden has shown himself to be the special kind of asshole, that despite being a good coach, would actually cause talent on and off the field to choose not working for the Giants.
He got thrown under the bus by the league because in emails he called Roger Goodell a "p*ssy" and a “f*ggot". They ran some major investigation and all that was ever released was his emails. It was a hit job. In this world of second chances, that was a lifetime sentence.
He admitted to his mistakes and has asked for forgiveness. Pretty much evey male I know over a certain age has made comments they wouldn't make today, and would be embarrassed about if they came out.
Eric has a better chance of being the next head coach of the Giants than Gruden. John Mara would never hire someone who said the things about Goodell that Gruden did.
Never.
Plus, the guy is suing the NFL. Any owner who signed this guy would be ostracized from the NFL owners "club". Not going to happen.
We can daydream all we want about BB or Jon Gruden or The Chin or zombie Vince Lombardi but Daboll's not going anywhere unless he resigns to take a college HC job. Our feelings about that don't matter.
No one - coach, player, GM, scout, etc. that is eligible per the league and the law should be off the table.
Otherwise, winning is second (or worse) to other things and that's not the best way to run a pro sports team IMO.
If winning was what mattered most to John Mara, would he be publicly making excuses for Daniel Jones?
I agree with your sentiment, but that is not who John Mara is.
I know I'm like a broken record, but I'm not sure Mara realizes how much of a national laughingstock the Giants are as a franchise. On field and off field.
If the stench of this decaying dumpster of a franchise fits his ideal image for the franchise (for someone who is supposedly so image conscious) then things could get worse for us fans if that's even possible before they get better.
I see Gruden brought up occasionally by different fanbases throughout the internet, and I've gotta say, maybe I was just not paying attention but was he really that impressive when he returned? I admit he did better than I thought he would, being away for so long and all, but seemed like he was somewhat middling, and this is without taking the racist emails into account. Some of those emails weren't just offensive terms, either, they were some pretty gross tropes to be using in modern times.
Belichick is a weird one. I thought he'd be rushing to get back into coaching but he seems to be enjoying TV more than I thought he would.

Not in a professional setting and NEVER immortalized in black and white. At the VERY least, I can say that oversight is enough to scratch any candidate for a leadership position off of my list. That's not even acknowledging that there is a moral chasm between us. He can do youtube videos and post on X. I don't want to see him on a sideline and I want him nowhere NEAR MetLife!
but if we hired Gruden, I would 100% just stop watching NFL football. I've been liking college more anyway.
I pray now not just that the Giants draft Shedeur Sanders to get rid of some of the self righteous fans who said they'd be done with the team if that happens, I also now pray that Gruden is hired as a coach. To get rid of the rest of the holier than thou "Giants are a classier team than the rest of the league" anachronisms
and not just casual prayer, I will pray with every fiber of my being.

This is a nice "shoot from the hip" response, but you missed, bruh! I am not holier than thou, nor do I believe the Giants are. But as a person of color who has experienced racism first hand, I have a very PERSONAL zero tolerance policy when it comes to the subject. You can pray for whoever you want to coach the team. I couldn't stomach it. Even if he got us a Super Bowl, that shit would come with an asterisk. I'll also be the first to admit that I have some deep rooted issues that contribute to my hard nosed stance and I do not expect anyone to agree with me or rally behind me and I do not judge you if you don't. Do you.

At least you spelled his name correctly!

There were multiple racist tropes and statements in his emails.. if memory serves me right
Never.

But I believe Gruden is in full black-ball status around the league courtesy of Goodell.
Goodell decided to crush Gruden over his private emails with Bruce Allen, and demonstrate, like Rozelle and Tagliabue, he despises the Raiders.

And he has a young girlfriend now. He doesn't need coaching to fill a void in his life at this point.
