ESPN Advanced Analytics rates Nabers a 99 in their open rate analysis, number two is Diggs with an 83 rating. The disparity is almost unbelievable. It's so discouraging the Giants have such a bad offense with such a unique player.
I'll blame Jones for just about anything but true drops are on the receiver. If we're using actual drops - as in the ones that are statistically recorded - they are pretty strict on what they call a drop.
On the QB - even if the next QB isn't good right way, I do think he will unleash some things in Nabers that we haven't seen much of yet. Jones is just so limited and conservative in the types of passes he can throw. I think Nabers has a lot of versatility and we will see him doing some exciting things with a QB who will just try stuff. With Jones we just so rarely see Nabers running onto deep balls, deep outs/corners, deep digs, catching long crossers at full speed, jump balls. Pretty much any other QB will give us more of that.
RE: RE: It’s going to be fun to see what the next guy can do with him
whoever that may be. Looking on the plus side, maybe this is what it will take to finally move on and get a new QB.
Not for nothing, and clearly Jones isn't the answer, but he's getting Nabers the ball. It's not like he's not getting catches and opportunities.
He's getting catches. The 'opportunity' part depends on the timing, accuracy, and location of the throw. Its been countless times hes getting the ball late when the defense has already reacted to the play.
But I think Nabers has my favorite overall skillset of any Giants WR I've seen. Better QB and cleaning up some little issues and he could be special.
Odell was the most naturally gifted WR I think I have ever seen. His hands, short area quickness, speed, cutting ability were all in the 99% percentile plus.
I like Nabers, but I think there is a noticeable gap between his skills and OBJs. He's looking more and more like a short to medium range WR than a "take it to the house" type.

This is also a timing thing. You get him a ball on a slant on time and he can run through a defense. There is no doubt in me about that. The throws have to be anticipatory. Right now they are reactive.
but I watch a lot of football, and I see guys like Jefferson, Hill, Lamb, Samuel, Olave, etc almost toying with corners at times and having no problem finding space.

I think this is very premature. The next time he is "thrown open", hit in stride, properly led, etc. will be the first. Monday night, there was a play where Nabers was lined up on the left side of the offense on the bottom of the screen. The camera catches him put a move on the CB at the line and freeze him. Rgith away I yelled he has Nabers, hoping it was a sideline route. Jones at least saw it, but made a bad throw. This is happening at a decent clip, but it isn't always caught on the TV broadcast. You have to hit on those.

There is merit in your position for sure. There are still unknowns without a more gifted QB to get Nabers the ball.

It's not just Nabers. How many times a game does Jones cause any of the receivers to either full stop or turn back to catch, where they then get hit by the defender immediately instead of hitting the receive in stride so he can run away from the defender?
I think we will see a world of difference with these guys once a QB can recognize their target and hit him on time.

If you're referring to the long sideline throat to nabers, I thought he slowed down a bit which caused the overthrow.

And I'm looking forward to him having-HOPEFULLY-a legit QB next fall.
More Drops = More Losses = More New QB Opportunities.
